Since it opened on just two screens in New York in May this year, Once has taken the U.S by storm, grossing over $9 million at the box office and becoming the most profitable film of the summer.
Now, the sleeper hit set on the streets of Dublin, which has won two International Audience Awards and captured the hearts of audiences everywhere, is set to be released on DVD on February 25.
A modern and very simple love story, Once is the tale of two kindred spirits who find each other on the bustling streets of Dublin. One is a street musician (The Frames front man, Glen Hansard) who lacks the confidence to perform his own songs. The other is a young mother (Czech pianist, Maketa Irglova) trying to find her way in a strange new town. As their lives intertwine, they discover each other’s talents and push one another to realise what each had only dreamt about before. Once is their inspiring story.
Written and directed by John Carney, Once is a nod to the classic musicals of the past, while it is also grounded in the bohemian world of struggling young Dubliners that he knew from his days as a young musician
