Can you help with a new benefits tool if you live in Northern Ireland?

What is this all about?

Access to Benefits (a2b), a not-for-profit organisation in Northern Ireland, is hoping to help more older people claim the benefits they are entitled to and needs volunteers to test a new online benefits calculator that it has developed.

The calculator is not just for older people and will be available to anyone that lives in Northern Ireland but a2b would like to hear from

The over 60s
People with a family member who is over 60 who may be eligible
Or those that provide care to someone who is over 60, and are interested in testing the system and reporting back what they thought

The aim is the tool is designed with the older user in mind.

If you can help please email online@a2b.org.uk. Here is a demonstration of the tool.

What will you need to do?

Taking part will involve you testing the calculator and then being asked to complete a short feedback form to find out if you found the calculator easy to use, how often you use the internet etc. The calculator itself is completely anonymous and you will not be asked to provide any personal details such as name and address.

The aim of the tool will be to work out if someone could be entitled to any one of about 50 benefits and services and will give a print-out of the results to take to an advice organisation to check the information and process the applications. You will be helping to make the tool as useful as possible.

What if you don’t live in Northern Ireland?

There is already an online benefits tool for people who live in England, Scotland and Wales called Entitledto.com that will check if you can claim certain benefits.

  • I'm wondering if anyone tried this out? If so, was it any good? I'm helping out some relatives and this tool would be brilliant as I could do everything in their front room.

Just to say I know the organisation and I think the tool should be top class - they've put a lot of work into it. Well worth a try.
