Co-Op account and MBNA card

Hi

I am planning to go to court on 19th Feb to file for BR, so have sent off for the forms for a Co-Op cashminder account so I can open one straight after.

I've just noticed though, that one of the credit cards I have debt with, MBNA, has 'MBNA Europe Bank' listed under 'account' on my statement, but 'Co-operative Bank' listed under 'bank'.

Does anyone have experience of whether this will affect my application with the Co-op for a cashminder account?

Thanks!

Debtee

  • Not sure what you are actually asking, but just a quick reply to say that an MBNA credit card (for no small amount!) was included in my BR and I had absoultley no problems opening a Cashminder account :D

    The Co-op seem to be quite good with allowing cashminder accounts to people who owe them money in other ways.

    I don't think MBNA and the finance side of the Co-op are linked in any significant way.:confused:

    I think MBNA are still owned by one of the larger American banks.

    EDIT:
    The Co-op seem to be quite good with allowing cashminder accounts to people who owe them money in other ways.

    Certainly seems that way from past evidence here. :)

  • Thanks to all of you who replied with your thoughts, which would seem to be correct;

    I called the Co-Op today and asked them whether having a debt on an MBNA card would affect my application for a cashminder account and they said no, it wouldn't:)

    As far as I can gather, there is no connection between Co-Op and MBNA (and given CoOp's ethical policies I'd be very surprised if there was) - it's simply a way for MBNA to collect their money from its customers, basically an account that they hold with the CoOp that you're paying money into, with your card number as a reference so they know exactly who's paid what. If you look at any bills that are payable at a bank counter you'll see a similar thing.

    And I owed a fairly considerable sum to MBNA and had no problems opening a cashminder account :D
