I believe rrickyuk's suggested answer is wrong. If you look at the Unofficial Guide to Legoland Windsor you'll see the correct answer.

I've just found this info on the Legoland site:
Pan for gold at the Gold Wash and trade in your treasure for a medallion that’s your to keep safe from all the other little pirates lurking around you.
