Visceral and unrelenting, Hatchet is writer/director Adam Green's blood-soaked love letter to the slasher film genre. Packed with the devastating combination of comedy and absolute gore-driven mayhem, this critically acclaimed horror masterpiece introduces the new talisman of terror. Victor Crowley. Packed with incredible blood-curdling death scenes, true nail-biting suspense, heart-stopping shocks and rammed to the rafters with with laughs, Adam Green and his outstanding cast have worked fiendishly to bring the legend of Victor Crowley hideously to life.
Starring Joel David Moore (Dodgeball, Grandma's Boy, the upcoming James Cameron film Avatar), Deon Richmond (Not Another Teen Movie, Scream 3), the beautiful Tamara Feldman (Perfect Stranger and Mercedes McNab ("Buffy The Vampire Slayer" and "Angel"), Hatchet also boasts a stellar supporting cast of iconic genre veterans including cameos from Robert Englund ("Freddy Krueger" from the Nightmare on Elm Street film series), Tony Todd (Candyman), and Joshua Leonard (The Blair Witch Project) and starring the legendary Kane Hodder ("Jason" from Friday the 13th Part VII and VIII, Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Chapter and Jason X) as vicious killer Victor Crowley.
Hatchet is a must-see blood and guts laugh-fest that arrives on DVD and becomes available to 'download-to-own' on January 28th 2008.
Hatchet spins a terrifying tale of tragedy and comeuppance from beyond the grave. Victor Crowley is a hideously deformed boy, living in seclusion with his father (Kane Hodder) in an isolated cabin deep in the Louisiana bayou. When a Halloween prank initiated by local kids goes terribly awry, Victor is accidentally killed in a vicious twist of fate.
Years later, brokenhearted college boy Ben (Joel Moore) ditches his friends during a pre-Katrina Mardi Gras in favour of a cheesy 'Haunted Swamp' tour. He soon finds himself with an inexperienced tour guide (Perry Shen) on a boat full of misfits including an aspiring !!!!!! director and his two starlets, a middle-aged couple, and a young woman with a vendetta against Crowley. The tour hits trouble in the depths of the swamps and an evening of seemingly innocent fun evolves rapidly into a horrific nightmare, as they come face to face with a monstrous killer.
Officially selected and winner of numerous awards at international horror film festivals* including the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival, Hatchet redefines the 'slasher' genre and takes it back to it gory comic roots with an authenticity which will reward fans and critics alike. DreadCentral called Hatchet "the next big thing in horror," while Gorezone Magazine declared the film "a masterpiece." Tony Timpone, editor of Fangoria Magazine, dubbed Victor Crowley "a potential new slasher icon," while Icons of Fright revelled in the "over the top, jaw-dropping gore."
This new sensational slasher film sees a gutsy and enthusiastic return to gore and terror that had been missing from this genre in recent years. Hatchet writer/director Adam Green has delivered us Victor Crowley, a legendary psycho killer with grudges, deformities, and axes to grind-very graphically - against the heads of seemingly innocent tourists in the murky depths of a swamp hell, and he has plenty of fun doing it!
