One of the bands featured in our 25 New Bands For 2008 list, 3-piece purveyors of stripped-back Rock 'n' Roll and surrealist narrative pop, The Wave Pictures release new single 'I Love You Like A Madman' on 10th March - win 7" vinyl!
With a debut album due on Moshi Moshi in April, this single perfectly distills The Wave Pictures' untouched and uncontrived Garage Band take on classic Rock'n'Roll, Country and Blues. Above ‘indie-soul’ riffing and scat brass, not-quite-observational lyrics of a nicotine deprived Christmas vie for attention.
Recorded in the basement studio of The Duke Of Uke music shop on Hanbury Road, East London, their debut album Instant Coffee Baby is comprised largely of live takes; with overdubs reserved for the odd backing vocal, violin, brass or guest appearance. Here is the simple spacious recording of early blues and country records and the essential Garage band ‘roots pop’ of the Crickets. Allowing their twisted love songs to evoke the grubby romance within the very fabric of English life, basking in the invigorating quality of youth that is purely The Wave Pictures.
THE WAVE PICTURES appear at the TIME OUT 'On The Up' show on 31st JANUARY at the Islington Bar Academy. They also support Moshi Moshi labelmates Slow Club in the coming weeks.
Four lucky winners can each bag a copy of the band's last single, 'We Dress Up Like Snowmen', on 7" vinyl!
