Mackinnon and Saunders Team up with Curtis Jobling and Joe Pasquale for Frankenstein's Cat TV Animation.
FRANKENSTEIN’S CAT, a brand new animated children’s television series, based on writer and illustrator Curtis Jobling’s acclaimed book of the same name and featuring the vocal talents of comedy genius and actor Joe Pasquale, is set to ignite the imaginations of children around the UK when it premieres on CBBC on 4th February 2008.
Mackinnon & Saunders, the award-winning puppet animation production team, whose credits include Hollywood movies and commercials, are no newcomers to the world of children’s television, having worked on a number of hugely successful TV shows such as Postman Pat, Bob The Builder, Pingu, Koala Brothers and Roary The Racing Car. FRANKENSTEIN’S CAT, their latest venture in this arena is already proving to be a huge hit around the world.
FRANKENSTEIN’S CAT, a show that celebrates difference is a mix of comedy, great stories and fantastic animation. The series tells the story of the unique friendship between Lottie (Alex Kelly), a girl who doesn’t fit in and Frankenstein’s Cat, Nine (Joe Pasquale), who just doesn’t fit together properly! The series is set between two worlds – the creepy Castle Frankenstein, with its cast of cracked inhabitants and the tiny village of Oddsburg, whose residents tremble below and where Lottie is the only girl.
Nine, a hyperactive, stinky creature who has a tendency to fall apart, lives in the castle with his creator and his three ugly sisters who go out of their way to make his life as difficult as possible! Co-produced by award-winning animation producer Jackie Edwards, whose credits include work on The First Snow of Winter, Bounty Hamster and Little Robots and Sara Mullock, who worked on Nick Park’s original Creature Comforts, and helped develop Eddie Murphy’s comedy series The PJs.
Ian Mackinnon and Peter Saunders met in the 1980s when they worked at Cosgrove Hall Films. They began to develop and refine the art of puppet-making on productions such as the BAFTA winning The Reluctant Dragon and the Emmy Award winning The Fool of the World. At the start of the 90s they set up their business partnership and in 1995 created the Martian characters for Tim Burton’s movie Mars Attacks! In 1998 Ian and Peter first collaborated with character designer Carlos Grangel on the Oscar™ nominated short film The PeriwigMaker and then again in 2002, when they teamed up with Tim Burton to create the characters for Corpse Bride, producing an extraordinary cast of puppets.
Mackinnon & Saunders have long been admirers of Curtis Jobling’s work as an author, illustrator, production designer and concept developer and were keen to work with him on transforming the book of FRANKENSTEIN’S CAT into a long-form television series. Curtis is probably best known as the designer for the BAFTA winning BBC/Nickelodeon show, Bob the Builder and as the author and illustrator of the delightful children’s books My Daddy, Cheeky Monkey and Dinosaurs After Dark FRANKENSTEIN’S CAT has already been sold to numerous territories around the world ensuring that 2008 will definitely be the year of the Cat!
