Period nightmare

This isn't strictly speaking money-saving but your responses might save me from spoiling my holiday!

I'm in my late(ish:rolleyes: ) forties and still have a pretty regular cycle :j , though it can vary from 26-31 days.

I've nothing booked yet as I don't know when best to go. Overall last year my average cycle was 28.3 days. Having used some free software I've calculated when I'm likely to have a period, depending on which I choose to go for, I'm due on 12/9 (28 day cycle) or 21/9 (29 day cycle).

I had in mind to book for the 22nd until I found this out, now I don't know

I haven't been able to get on with tampons for a few years, so I'd rather avoid "the worst time" (don't want to be sitting in a "hammock" by the pool

:rolleyes: :eek: ) What worries me slightly is that my hormones might suddenly go topsy turvy anyway and my best laid plans will fly right out of the window

Go to the doctor and get some noristherone (spelling?). You take it from 3 days before you are due until you are ready to have your period. It works by lengthening the second half of your cycle.

The only side effects are PMT symptons like bloating, you can get spotting if you take it for more than 2 weeks.

Best plan is to use it to delay the period before your holiday so that you finish a period just before you go away and don't even have to think about it.

Totally agree with silvercar! I took this once many moons ago and it saved a lot of hassle whilst away - good luck xx

My daughter took this when she went to africa last year and was so relieved that she wouldnt be coming on. (not exactly the best place for loos etc lol)

She didnt experience any problems either.

Have you thought about using a mooncup?

I started the evening before we went on holiday to Egypt last year and had no problems - I've found I only need to 'deal with it' twice a day so I was fine from very early morning until we reached our destination, and I could do everything i wanted for those days with absolute confidence. I've been using one for a few years now and wouldn't be without it.

I haven't, TBH I don't fancy it.

Years ago I used a dutch cap for contraception (a vimule pessary, worked by suction not spring loaded. It always freaked me a bit if I found I'd started whilst I had it in, as of course the menstrual blood collected in it. Also, I found it made me sore taking it in and out.
I suspect it is much the same thing.

if you want to be sure of your period dates, you could go on the pill.

I use Yasmin, excellent for pmt and peri stuff, will regulate you,. so you know where you are etc...

I am nearly 45 and I have been prescribed it for the past 4 years, it works really well and balances out your hormones, it comes highly recommeded:T

I might look further into the moon-cup,I had a quick look earlier, seems I would need size A (over 40, no kids). Is it easy to get back out again? The reason I didn't like the dutch cap I used was because it was difficult to remove. You have to sort of get your fingers in and hook round the edge to get it out whilst balancing on one leg (soz if tmi!) fighting against the suction. Not sure if I'm supple enough these days to get into such contortions:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I'd rather keep away from synthetic hormones (got sterilized 3 yrs ago for that reason). However, should I need to visit the doctor I might float the idea of a period inhibitor past her. Much I find periods a nuisance I'm not really looking forward to my menopause.......
