There’s nothing quite like putting your feet up with a great book and a delicious cup of coffee. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Costa, the UK’s fastest-growing coffee shop chain, to offer one lucky viewer the chance to win a complete set of the 20 books shortlisted for the 2007 Costa Book Awards and a Costa coffee card with £20 of credit to spend at any UK Costa outlet.
The Costa Book Awards have the single aim of celebrating the most enjoyable books of the last year by writers based in the UK and Ireland and have five categories: novel, first novel, biography, poetry and children's book. Previous winners and nominees include William Boyd, Philip Pullman, Andrea Levy, Mark Haddon and J.K. Rowling.
The winners in each category were announced last week, these five authors then go through to compete for the prestigious Costa Book of the Year 2007, to be announced at a glittering awards ceremony in central London on January 22nd 2008.
Since the introduction of the Book of the Year award in 1985, it has been won seven times by a novel, four times by a first novel, five times by a biography, five times by a collection of poetry and once by a children’s book.
Authors shortlisted for the 2007 Costa Book Awards include Simon Sebag Montefiore for Young Stalin, Catherine O’Flynn for What Was Lost, Meg Rosoff for What I Was and Rose Tremain for The Road Home.
For more information on this year’s award or to tell us your thoughts on this year’s shortlists, go to www.costabooks.com and don't forget to look out on 22nd January to find out this year’s Costa Book of the Year.
