Duh! ignore me I missed the "philosopher and metereorologist" part!!0 -
Tried Aristotle he wasn't into short sentences
Latest favourite is Sartre (he was a meterologist in the French Army)Troubled Sleep (La Mort Dans L'Ame) Part One. The date is June 15, 1940. Ex-General Gomez, now a refugee living in New York City, awakens from a nightmare in which an octopus was sucking his blood. He finds that the octopus was no dream: it is the overpowering, humid heat embracing him. Outside, it is the catastrophic intensity of the light, stronger even than in Spain.Sorry after more googlement cannot confirm if the opening line is "an octopus?"!. I did used to have this book it was originally translated as Iron in the Soul as part of the Roads to Freedom trilogy but I ditched them when they got too yellow and sad looking0 -
I just found a blog where people were having a "guess the first line" game and "An Octopus? He pulled out his knife and opened his eyes, it was a dream." was one of them. The answer was indeed Troubled Sleep by Jean-Paul Sartre0
