Google Checkout - A WARNING! (Read the small print!)

Hi,
I'm finding more and more internet sites are using Google Checkout, and some of them are offering discounts if you pay that way. Lovely. But....
If you read Google's Terms and Conditions thoroughly before you sign up to their service you will find this:
"You also authorize us to obtain from time to time a credit report and/or to otherwise make credit or other background inquiries as we deem appropriate to evaluate your registration for or continued use of the Service."
See:
https://checkout.google.com/termsOfService?type=Buyer&gl=GB#GB
ARGHHH!!!
If I understand this correctly, by signing up to this service I'm allowing Google to run credit checks on me as and when they please. Now surely this has the potential to negatively affect my credit rating?
Am I interpreting this correctly? Have I missed something? Why aren't people jumping up and down about this? Why hasn't Martin warned us?
Thanks all! By the way, not sure of the best place to post this hence by choice of 'Any Other Moneysaving' - if you think it should move just say so!

Interesting story here about Google Checkout:
http://groups.google.co.uk/group/uk.legal/browse_thread/thread/906b7bf49d08bc8a/a0ccff43fce4fd6e?hl=en&lnk=st&q=google+checkout+take+money+no+goods#a0ccff43fce4fd6e
I'm not that impressed with them. Ordered an item over £100 they take money. I immediately get email from supplier - not in stock will be about 2 weeks.
The supplier is well known and the delay is not a problem. But there is a flaw in the system because Google take money for items not in stock.
I can not see an easy way to contact Google everything refers you to the supplier.

I don't think many companies are aware of these problems. I contacted one vendor who only accepted payments through Google Checkout and they were totally unaware of the credit checks thing. They said I could pay by phoning them, but by then I had ordered with a different company.
This has made me think twice about PayPal too. I set that up for eBay (where you don't have a lot of choice other than cheques, which can go missing very easily) but a lot more sites are offering payment for goods through it now. So far I've had no problems, but I wonder what would happen if I did...0
