Phonecalls from collections

I just thought I'd share the calls I've had from Barclays today...

long story short the account is in dispute and with the ombudsman as we speak. They've had a letter telling them I'll only deal with them via letter, as I have had previous trouble with them and lodged complaints with TS and OFT against them for it. So while I have been a bit sadistic, I think I've made my point without crossing the line. And a lot of call centre peeps are going to dine out on another crazy customer story. Not being bullied is fun!:rotfl:

Call 1:

Barclays Bod (BB): Hi can I speak to Miss Charming please?
Prince Charming(he just begged to be called that:rolleyes:): Who is it please?
BB: It's Bod form Barclays
PC: Uh, I don't think she wants to speak to you, actually...

(phone is eventually passed over)

BB: Hello, is that Miss Charming?
Me: Yes. Is that Barclays?
BB: Yes, can you just...
Me: No, I don't think so. I've explained my position. I'm only dealing with you by letter. I know it's on my file. I've got a copy of it right here... Goodbye.

Call 2, about ten minutes later:
BB: Hi, is that Miss Charming?
Me: (very perkily) speaking! Is that Bod from Barclays?
BB: (confused) yes. Can I just ask you some security questions?
Me: Hmmm. Depends. Can I ask you the same ones?
BB: (v. confused) What?
Me: Will you answer the questions too? You know, I tell you my birthdate, you tell me yours, we exchange postcodes... come on, it'll be fun! I'll put you on my christmas list!
BB: (so confused I feel sorry for him) Uh, Can I call you back please?

Call 3, about 2 mins later:
BB(not the same one): Hi, is that Miss Charming?
Me: Yes.
BB: Can I ask you some security questions?
Me: It's a free country, I guess.
BB: Can you confirm the first line of your address and postcode?
Me: (perky again) Nope!
BB: Look, just tell me the first line...
Me: No!
BB: Miss Charming, you're not helping yourself...
Me: You. I'm not helping you. I'm just fine!
BB: Are you going to carry on being childish?
Me: Dunno. Try me!
BB: (angry) What is your problem?
Me: Your employer. I think you guessed that already, though, eh?

Call 4:
(before I even get to say anything)
BB: Miss Charming, you're not helping yourself here. If you confirm your details I can make the calls stop...
(I never even said anything on this call)

Call 5:
BB: Miss Charming, can you confirm...(you get the idea)
Me: Why?
BB: Because we need to... blah blah
Me: Why?
BB: Because... blah
Me: Why?
BB: Blah
Me: Why?
(eventually I get bored and wander off without hanging up. I have no idea how long he talks to himself for but its at least thirty seconds)

Call 6:
BB (who is now female): Miss Charming, we have to discuss this situation right now or else blah blah blah
Me:(speaking over her at first) This is harrassment. If you do not cease immediately I will make a complaint, to the OFT and Trading Standards, both of whom have already recieved complaints regarding your behaviour. I will also take you to court, something you are well aware I will do as I have a case pending against you at present and you have settled a further case out of court. This account is in dispute, you are not able to pursue it at present, and anyway you owe me three grand. Cough up and I'll talk.

No more calls this evening!

Sounds like you had some fun there!

What exactly are they chasing you for? (If you don't mind me asking)

A £220 overdraft. I had two cards, a current account and a joint account with them. The joint account is with the ombudsman over a long and boring case involving where money goes when it's paid into your account but never reaches it, and whose problem it is, plus there's a big chunk of fees I want back from my account (with the £220 overdraft). The two cards I stung 'em for the fees back, plus took them to court over DPA.

They withdrew the overdraft when I requested back the charges and now the account is in dispute. I am officially a 'pain in the a**e' customer now, as I touchingly discovered when I demanded my file (not statements or list of charges. The actual record of all contact etc).

Oho it i so much fun! I could get angry or rude, but I think my way is much more fun :D I just wanted to show people that calls from creditors don't have to be intimidating or scary if you don't let them be.

Well done silver charming, I have refused those "credit check" enquiries before myself. After all, you don't know who they are do you?? Usually ask you to call them,of cousre you wouldn't due to the costs and not knowing who to call??

I'd never call anyone like that. And it took me years to realise that you don't have to meekly comply when these people call. It used to scare the hell out of me. Everybody should refuse to answer the security questions! Even if I had no objection to dealing with them by phone, I know from personal experience that it's better to have things in writing so you've got proof of what was said and what was agreed.
