help needed for a cheap males gift

I hope that you wonderful people here can help me , I am includng my sister and her boyfriend?parther/father of her children in the gift giving this christmas for the first time . they have both been drug addicts for years and are trying really hard to kick the habit and I want to encourage it by including them more.

for my sister i am planning to do a chocoholics mug , but i am drawing a blank on her other half .

he is in his early 30's, doesn't drive, has no hobbies , It has to be something that has no real value because I don't want it to be able to be sold .

any ideas?

How about something like the journal jar? Obviously if this attempt to kick the drugs is fairly new, you'll want to choose questions carefully, focusing on good stuff and the future (child growing up etc). But, it may help with 'kicking the habit' - many counsellors, not just drugs, say a diary, or writing things down, can be helpful.

Or, if he likes music, how about a personalised (ie homemade) compilation CD (that way there's no street value), added to something simple like a box of sweets.

Hi OP, If you have photos of the family, you could do a photo collage or an illustrated family tree for them. Or following on from the journal idea, start a scrapbook for them.

You could make up a small male pamper hamper for him too, shower gel, deoderant, hairbrush that kind of thing - just little everyday items that could be really useful. The retro sweet box thread has some nice ideas too.

The gift in a jar thread is amazing, I know some of the ideas aren't particularly bloke orientated, but you could do a jar of something he could do with the kids, say a cookie mixture or something.

thanks all , I hadn't really thought of the retro sweetie box for him , he's missing a large number of sweet's but I guess the damage is already done LOL.

the pamper hamper is a good idea too.

not sure he'd like the journal in a jar , he's not a very compitent writer ( so many more problems than just the drugs)and unfortuantly as we have tended to exclude them from family gatherings because of trust issues a lot of photos just don't get taken of their gang and any of the rest of the family might just make them realize how much they have missed and I'm not sure thats a good thing at christmas .

All I ever want them to do is try and improve their and their childrens lidfes and I figure every little bit of progress deserves some recongition of their efforts. I live in hope that one day they will be able to look back and see how far they have come rather than what they miss .

Its nice to hear your standing by them. My nephew has been through a lot in his life with drugs/prison etc, and we have always stood by him. He has always appreciated everything we have ever bought for him, and the best things we ever got him were silly things like gloves, socks stuff like this. Does he drink coffee and tea? Maybe a 'put your feet up' hamper would be nice for him. We've just done something similar for my OH (me and the kids) we bought him a footstool for his birthday, something he keeps saying we should get, and what we did was make up 2 small hampers. One for during the day with a coffee mug, coaster, jar of coffee, choccie biccies, malty drink for when he comes home from work in the morning as he works permanent nights, and some magazines. the other one has a night time one, with 2 small bottles of wine, an old dvd (Italian job) choccies, tortilla chips, dips stuff like this. The kids have thoroughly enjoyed putting these together, and I will definitely be doing more stuff like this for christmas.
I'm sure with the rest of the family standing by them and supporting them as you are doing now will probably be the best christmas pressie they could ever ask for anyway. Anything else they get will be a bonus. Good luck to you all, hope everything works out for you. My nephew this year has given us the best pressie he could ever give us, hes now a dad, and a brilliant one at that.

  • How about baby sitting vouchers from you?
Or instead of a present a day out with you all?...picnic/bbq and bowling? and give them as a joint pressie?
