Shown on "Nigella Express" tonight on BBC2 - how to make honeycomb -
100g caster sugar
4 tbsp golden syrup
put these two in a pan, stir well, then put on a high heat till its molten and browny in colour. Once that happens dump in 1 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda and whisk furiously. It will bubble up. Pour onto a baking sheet (she doesn't say if its greased or not). leave to set for 15 minutes. Break apart with a hammer.
Would make a nice christmas pressie. i don't know if you could pour it into cookie moulds and then dip half of it in chocolate? has anyone made this in this way before?
just a thought!

we used to make this loads as kids - and yes it always had to be covered in chocolate  I am sure we always used to pour it into a buttered enamel tin, left it to set and then when cold poured a layer of chocolate over the top.0

Saw this recipe tonight and had to go to the corner shop for golden syrup. It's just setting now.
Just tried it. It's a bit(a lot) chewy. I don't think I was quick enough pouring it out of the pan.
I poured it onto baking paper and it has come away very easily.0 -
Hi Kethry, I also saw the programme last night and my son and myself sat salivating, so at around 9pm:eek: we decided to make some. But it was so chewy not at all like cinder toffee, not sure if the recipe was wrong or my method of making it. I also thought it would make a lovely idea for a present especially coated in chocolate(well I would appreciate it:D). Would be interested to know if anybody else has attempted to make it from the same recipe.0

ah you beat me to it Keth LOL :rotfl:
just about to put this one - it's a great idea isn't it. I am going to do it for table presents on xmas day.... getting some little storage jars from the charity shop & putting some tissue paper in them.
Cheers :beer:2010 - nothing as we emigrated to Australia!!! :j0 -
:j \hi, saw that oo and it looked yummy, but dont forget the bicarb of soda, that makes the bubbles so it wouldnt be too chewy, mmm got me going now. I am going to make some as little prezzies.

The chewiness depends on how hot you heat it to, needs to be over 300f for it to go crumbly, which can take a while.
Hope this helps0 -
that probably why mine didnt work did exactly the recipe obviuosly wasnt hot enough though was really chewy:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

AHA!.......I knew i could find the recipe for that on here.........we were at a fair and i went to buy some and it was 2 quid a bag! i said "2 quid!" not paying that and thought there was a reason i decided not to buy it as i really wanted some. I looked at all the stalls on the way out to no avail. Put my boys to bed, tidied, yar de yar and came down at 5 to 9 to see nigella whipping some up.Genious! just needed to check if i needed to put some oil in first . Going to do it now and check back. x:T0
