craft box / hamper for young kids

Options
hi all

i am making craft box / hampers for ds2 and dd3 and also for their 21 cousins.

I know what i am going to put in the hampers/ boxes ( i love http://www.bakerross.co.uk/) and always buy their arts and crafts materials when on special offer) BUT i am looking for ideas for what to buy for the actual box / hamper to put the materials in.

I would like it to be a box rather than an open basket as lots of the contents will be small, messy bits and peices of craft materials.

I would like the box to be the craft box where the kids store their craft materials permanently.

Wilkinsons are doing craft boxes for £3.99

http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/invt/0253143

but i would like a box like this but without the contents as i have already got all that sorted out!

if anyone has any ideas please let me know...

even large tupperware boxes with good lids would be suitable but i can never find them cheap enough.... bear in mind i need 23 of these at least:rotfl:

21 cousins is rather a lot to buy for:rotfl:

Those 'pop-together' CD boxes from poundstretcher? £2.00 each and 3 for 2.

    sorry, that's all I got.
  • Are any of the cousins siblings then at least you could combine the craft stuff into a larger container and give as a joint gift which would cut down on the number of boxes needed.

That's an awful lot of boxes to buy otherwise.

Just been to Asda tonight and in the back to school section they were selling reduced cd type strong card boxes about £1.50 each I think, they had camouflage ones for boys and some pink/purple with motifs for girls. Quite strong and already made up. They also had stickers etc to match very cheap about 30p pack both designs:confused: or they had those small tin lunch boxes with snap shutters similar designs for around £2 each which would be quite cute.

    hi all

    thanks

i will work out if sibblings can share a box - some have big ae differences so maybe not:confused:

and will try and get to an asda - we have none locally- so will have to plan a trip somewhere

do all asda's have these or just big ones?

    thanks

  • Hi
Our asda is a big one but I would think most will have had the back to school stuff in - you could always ring customer services and check before making a journey if you haven't got one local.

Some other suggestions - thinking outside the "box" idea, how about small rucksacks ? bound to be lots in sales at moment now kids back at school and you could perhaps get character ones for the younger ones. Shops like Ethel Austins, market stalls, woolworths may be good places to look for quite cheap ones.

Or make some of those wall hangers with pockets. dead easy to make.

  • Just been looking at ikea online and they have some storage crates in kids storage section 99p for crate and 49p for lid to fit, not a bad size and can buy online too.

eBay have LOADS of cheap craft stuff search for sizzix die cuts scrapbooking papers etc

  • Wilkinsons sell those boxes unfilled as well, we have one for dd's pens / pencils - they were about £1.99 I think. Ours is Red bottom, blue lid and yellow handle.
  • poundstretchers have various plastic boxes with lids, all on 3 for 2, or something similar, some are bright pink with purple lids, about the size of a decent shoebox,
    i think they are £1 or £1.50,

they also do the cd or dvd pop together boxes, my dd got some pink ones, they are really good quality, she now has 6 boxes on her shelves with makeup, nailpolish, photos etc. all nicely hidden (for about the next week or so !)
    :p
I'm trying to be a good moneysaver
but I keep reading the bargains on the grabbit board !:rotfl:
