breadmaker thermostat gone haywire???

Options
I bought a Morphy Richards fastbake BM on ebay for £31 (they're about £70 new) so I was really chuffed. Picked it up, it was still in box with instructions and looked almost brand new (no idea how old it is).

Used it several times to make bread and jam and all was fine until yesterday when, I went to take the bread out and the element was still red hot (the cycle had finished) and the bread was cooked but had sort of flopped, as if it had risen too much due to high temp and then flopped. So, I tried another loaf, same thing happened but this time the bread didn't flop so I've got a usuable (extremely light) loaf but have a feeling this won't be consistent!

I'm concerned the thermostat has gone caput or something, anyone know if this can be repaired? Is it a common problem with breadmakers? I don't want to have to fork out for a brand new one but also am very attached to having home-made bread now and would hate to have to start buying bread again but I can't afford £70 for a new breadmaker!

Any advice welcome...
