Loans.co.uk loss/theft of personal data
Options
I have only found this on the site for the local rag in Watford where loans.co.uk are based but I thought this needed a wider viewing.

I have had hundreds of phone calls from a very dubious sounding call centre in India. I got to the sounce of it about three weeks ago when one of them let slip the amount of a loan I had applied for which they could only have got from Loans.co.uk
They have now written to everyone affected with an offer of free Experian for a year (woohoo).
Anyone else had the same or seen this anywhere alse in the press?

You've solved a mystery for me as I have also been phoned bt various dubious sounding foreigners with offers of a loan. I was blaming Abbey as I recently applied for a remortgage, but I applied for a loan with loans.co.uk about 2 years or more ago. Didn't go ahead with it though so do I have any comeback?0

Ok, firstly sorry for starting another thread, is there any way of merging all of these?elvis_girl wrote: »You've solved a mystery for me as I have also been phoned bt various dubious sounding foreigners with offers of a loan. Yes, you do have comeback, I never took out a loan with them either, I think the details they have lost/sold/had stolen were for people who applied but never took the loan for whatever reason, presumably these are the people whoever is behind the Indian call centre are interested in as they may still be looking for a loan elsewhere. Like you I went for a remortgage in the end. Get in touch with them now and complain, I found that it does not stop the calls completely but the number has reduced. I got so fed up with telling them not to call me that one evening I kept one of them on the line for the best part of an hour, he insisted he was calling from offices in Regent Street and kept up the pretence long after any normal person would have realised I was taking the p out of him. I'm going to write to them based on one of the letters on the other threads above and see what they come back with. In the meantime if you cant get anywhere on the phone with them email nw@loans.co.uk this is apparently their data protection officer.0 -
Just an update for anyone who got one of their holding letters promising a reply by 12th October. I spoke to them today and surprise - there is no compensation on offer at this stage. Apparently because none of this is their fault, presumably they expect us to take it up directly with their rogue employee who took the info. I've sent my complaint off to the information commissioners office today, once I've seen their actual written reply I'll see where else I can take it. On the plus side, no phone calls from India for a couple of weeks now.0
