Mugs for hot chocolate

I know last year there were lots of posts about making hot chocolate gift sets, so I just thought I'd let people know that in my £1 shop (poundworld) they are selling mugs with a spoon that sits thru a hole in the handle of the mug. They also had novelty jars in the shape of a chick that are filled with mini-marshmellows. The use by date on the mashmellow jar I bought was may 08.

Hi,
I thought you might like to know they also had some lovely large mugs in Primark a couple of weeks ago. One was a brown/cream one with 'I Love Chocolate' on and the otherswere pink with 'I Love Shopping' on them. I think they'd be lovely to use for hot chocolate sets.0 -

I made up lots of hot choc mugs last year using these mugs and everyone loved them, they were really cheap to make, 1 x sachets of hot choc a small bag of marshmallows, two flakes and a wisk.

Ladsmadd- You're welcome for the info. I hope you manage to get one for your sis, they're very cute and reasonable.
Minimacka- I don't suppose you have any pics of the sets you made, do you? I'm really interesed in how you do them, but I don't understand how you wrap them. Do you just pull the cellophane up around the whole mug and tie it? I wouldn't want to get it wrong and make a mess of it!

Hi everyone,
There is a sale in Whittards at the moment where I live (Plymouth) and they had some lovely mugs for sale starting at £1.50 with bees, fish and whales on them. There were also some funky spoons for £1, both with short and long handles (could be used to make chocolate spoons or just to add to your set) and their hot chocolate tubs (400g) are half price (£2.25), so if there is one nearby where you live it may be worth checking it out to see if there is a sale x0 -

Yes you just pull the sellophane around the mug and tie with a bow at the top.
Sorry I dont have any piccys of them but what i did was put a cadbury's hot choc sachet round the mug then put 2 flakes in then the mini marshmallows in the middle, i then put the whisk in and just wrapped them in sellophane with a big bow just above the mug so that you could see what was in the mug. I searched round for a mini grater to go with the mugs but I couldnt find one thats why I put a flake in and not a bar of cadbury's chocolate that I was going to use.
I did one of these for my ds teachers end of year pressie using a lovely big mug from asdas, I thought it was a bit different for her and she can use the mug again and again.

Thanks, I thought that was the way you do it, but I wasn't sure. The one you made for you DS's teacher sounds lovely. I really like the idea of making them yourself, last Xmas I bought one from BHS for £8 and the recipient later told me that it had just one sachet and two little truffles inside- therestwas just padding. Never again! lol0 -

They are so expensive arnt they at Christmas time, I really enjoyed making them and to be honest im not very arty at all but they did look nice. They cost me no more than £2 each. I dont have many people to buy for this year year and as all the kids got a mug last year I cant really make them one again this year. Another thing I got off here last year was to make a sweetie box and my two sons loved it. Its just a plastic sewing conpartment box filled with their favourite sweets. They liked it so much that they have asked for one again this year so I kept the plastic boxes and will fill them again with their favourite sweets. They cost me about £5 each but someone posted one on here that was £25  I think it was from bhs. There is a thread on here somewhere so if i can find it I will edit my post and show you as there is some piccys.0 -

Thanks, I actually have the thread book marked as I thought that was a really good idea when I came across it before. I have considered doing one for my mum for her b'day this year, she loves all those old sweets from when she was little. And as well as keeping costs down, the nice thing about doing 'em yourself is that you can choose exactly what the person would like.
I love this site, there's so many good ideas0
