I wondered if someone could point me in the right direction, I recall a thread about TV licences a wee while ago, regarding do I need a tv licence etc. I am thinking of currently getting rid of TV Licence but I need clarification on what I need to remove, the TV License website is not totally clear. I would still like to keep my topset box to receive digital radio which is currently connected to my hi-fi.
I would appreciate if anyone can find this thread, I have searched for almost an hour and still cannot find it.

You only need a TV licence if you watch or record live television - from any source.
It doesn't matter if you have a hundred TVs in your house - if you don't watch them you do not need a licence.
The TVLA website, in common with everything from this organisation, is deliberately misleading and full of half truths.
In its FAQ section, the first question I would expect to see is:- "when do I need a TV licence?" - this doesn't appear at all.
The questions that do appear are answered in a less than honest way.
For example:
Q: "What if I only use a TV to to watch videos", etc etc .........
A: "You need to notify us in writing that this is the case and one of our Enforcement Officers may need to visit you to confirm that you do not need a licence"
This answer is not correct, in fact, it is a lie ! You do not need to inform the TVLA about anything. You do not have to speak to one of their "enforcement officers" let alone give one access to your house - just tell them to go away ! The have exactly the same rights of access to your property as the paper boy.
And of course this answer implies that they think YOU are lying !
Good luck to you in not (legally) having a licence, but be warned, you will be harassed, threatened and bullied constantly by the TVLA. If you think that the Gestapo only appeared in old B & W war movies - think again.0 -

If you use your Digital TV STB just to receive digital radio, you will unfortunately need a TV licence because it receives TV as well. Why not ditch the STB and get a DAB radio instead? The radio licence was abolished years ago.0 -
From the "Gestapo" website !
"If you use a set-top box with a hi-fi system or another device that can only be used to produce sounds and can't display TV programmes, and you don't install or use any other TV receiving equipment, you don't need a TV Licence."0 -
Blimey! That is a turnup for the book.
Well spotted.
