Help with Fundraising?

First off I am NOT asking anyone here for money. But I do need help, my daughter is trying to raise funds to pay for her to go to India to teach English as a Foreign Language for Nepalese refugees, whilst staying in a convent (I kid you not). She needs the killer sponsorship letter that companies will respond to. She has already raised £300 but the total cost is £2000 and she doesnt think she can do that many sponsored runs!!
So does anyone have any good ideas? She is planning to go in September or January, but she is keen to start bombarding industry and seeing if they can help.

All advise VERY gratefully received.

Why don't you put up a site asking people to donate money for the cause? And maybe you can add this link to the letter you send too? Maybe you can get someone to put some ads on the site and get some revenue generated through that?

If all that sounds very techie and complicated, why don't you talk to the local newspaper (the one for your area) and ask them to write a small article about the work she wants to do and the impact it will have on the Nepalese people and if that generates any interest?
The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

was thinking - maybe your daughter could offer to write a monthly column for your local newspaper in return for them funding her trip? They might go for that. Or why not aim higher and contact magazines like NOW, Company, etc and ask if they will sponsor your daughter in return for an ongoing story about her trip or a promise of an interview al about it all when she returns - I mean they can only say no.

And I suppose if you are going to ask companies for money then it has to ones kind of linked to languages or teaching - how about asking staples or someone similar to sponser your daughter and tell them that she is going to have a newspaper article written about her trip (obviously she wil have to sweet talk the local rag to do that, I reckon the local freebie paper will put her story in) and she will wear some staples clobber to promote their business.

She could also try contacting TES newspaper.
Or how about asking Scott Mills to sponsor her with one of his random acts of kindnes on radio one- You can fill in an online form - It has to be a suprise for her if you choose to do that.
Or how about contacting Richard and Judy -they may be able to help and then do a liitle film about it. I know this seems a bit mad but its worth a try.

or how about these as ideas
    1. asking people via a website to sponser a child's education for a year at say £30 a go.
2.Get friends and family to sort stuff they need to get rid of and ebay it.
    3. Ask local companies to donate prizes (for a tsunami raffle at our hospital I rang local hairdressers, florists, beauty places and they all offered a free treatment or service as prize ) and hold a raffle.

I hope she manages to raise the money she neds - its a very worthwhile cause. :-)

when i was raising money to go ona big trip like that, i sent out lots of begging letters..... I found the best response was from the local 'older', more established companies replied and donated - a £25 cheque here and there was a huge help on my way to the £2500 target!

Another thing i did was ran a balloon race - made loadsamoney! Everyone buys a balloon for £1 (cost you about 50p each to do) and set them off at a summer fair or something.... the balloon which travels the furthest wins a price (donated by a local company!!)

Flick through the yellow pages, there'll be about 20 companies in your area that specialise in this sorta thing!
