50% off train tickets in Scotland with Scotrail

Options
Here's a great offer for 50% off all Saver Return, SuperSaver Return and Cheap Day Return tickets between any 2 stations in Scotland (except Dunbar and Lockerbie). It's for Scotrail's 'Advance club' members, but luckily enough the Advance club is free to join and only takes a few moments with an online form:

http://www.firstgroup.com/scotrail/advance/applynow.php

I joined last time this offer came round when it also applied to trains throughout the UK, but no such luck this time. (I haven't had a single email or mailout from them since, so should be no worries about spam after registering.)

You book the tickets by logging into the Advance club area of the site once you've registered, then click the 'Offers' link on the right hand side of the page, then it takes you to a link to book the discounted tickets. The offer expires on the 17th April 2007, but you can book for journeys up 19th June. The tickets that have the 50% discount applied are highlighted in green when you search for them.

Here are the terms and conditions:
  • This offer is only available to Advance members who are registered as users of the Advance website.
  • Discounted Rail tickets can only be booked through the Advance members website.
  • Discounted tickets are available to purchase up to and including 17th April 2007 and all travel must be completed by 19th June 2007.
  • Seat reservations if required can generally be made up to 12 weeks in advance of travel.
  • This offer is available for the purchase of Saver, SuperSaver and Cheap Day Return Tickets only.
  • Travel is valid between any two stations in Scotland (except Dunbar and Lockerbie).
  • Travel is valid on the scheduled services of First ScotRail, GNER, Virgin Trains and Strathclyde Rail.
  • A maximum of 4 tickets may be booked in any one transaction.
  • There are no further Railcard or child discounts and this offer is not available in conjunction with any other rail offer.
  • If you have not previously used the online ticket booking system you will need to register as a user. You will be able to register as part of the booking process.
  • Travel on the Caledonian Sleeper service is not allowed.
  • First ScotRail reserve the right to amend or withdraw this offer at any time without prior notice

  • Hi,

seems a good offer, but I don't have a season ticket, or any other, I 'm on the FirstScotRail, email thingy for special offers, but didn't get this one, so maybe not for me?

    Pity.
  • Hi,

just applied, says, SUCCESSFUL, and no questions, so that'll do me, will maybe get a wee jaunt up to Oban on the cheap, or maybe Thurso or Wick, never been so far north.
  • Hi, again,

    getting near bedtime,

tried that Advance Club, thingy, but couldn't log in,

anyway, found this, if you've got the legs, then rail it, which looks a good deal for May and June, anywhere in Scotland for £14 return, for over 55's.

Argh, how annoying, I really need to buy rail tickets and I used this offer last year, so I am a member, but I can't log in. It just sits there and does nothing.
