What’s the deal?
Not overly, yet if you're going to buy wine at Threshers, it will save you cash. Not a huge amount admittedly as it usually has a buy 2 get 1 free offer on anyway (meaning a 33% discount). However this way you can get a little more off and only need to buy one bottle to do it.
Yet of course 40% off Threshers prices doesn't automatically make it cheapest, so it's worth comparing the Threshers discounted price to elsewhere. Threshers tends to be considerably more expensive than many supermarket's wine departments for a starter.
To find other cheap deals there are a number of websites that help.... see the comparison links at the bottom of the 'Shopping Section'

PS. Know any decent Thresher wines?
Many people are asking "what are the good Threshers buys?", well Money Saving is my thing, not wine, so if you find a decent buy or can recommend a good wine at Threshers, please add it to the discussion below (just click reply)

It's back! Last Christmas Thresher's offered 40% of all wine and champagne, to much overdone celebration. It's running the offer again but, sadly, this time it's not on Champagne. Simply print out the voucher and take it in store between 22 March and 1 April.
It's valid at all Threshers group stores including Threshers, The Local, Haddows, Wine Rack, Bottoms Up and Victoria Wine.
- Print Out The Voucher. Just click this link, print the voucher, and then print it out and that’s it. There's no spending limit, though it can't be used in conjunction with buy two get the third free offers. To find your nearest store go here.

Threshers are running another 40% offer. Unfortunately unlike before xmas, it doesn't include champagne.
You can download a voucher at

thanx..which threshers do you work at by the way?0

Hi Funnyguy
I dont work for them, but a friend of mine does and he just emailed me the details.0 -
Superplonk guy (Malcolm Gluck) has a list of Threshers best buys with his rating of each one at: http://www.superplonk.com/home/ThresherVoucher.asp
I tried some on his list last time Threshers had this offer and can highly recommend the 'Ken Forrester Handmade Chenin Blanc' (stonking bargain at £3.49 (40% off price): http://www.lovethatwine.co.uk/wine/Ken-Forrester-Chenin-Blanc_4530.html
Reds: enjoyed the Pillar Box Red (Australia, 40% off = £5.39) and the Villa Maria Cellar Selection Pinot Noir, Marlborough (around £9.00 with 40% off) of which Tim Atkin said in his wines of the year article "At the three-bottle price [£9.99], this is the best-value Pinot in Britain." http://observer.guardian.co.uk/magazine/story/0,,1960537,00.html
If that's too pricey for you then he also liked the Spanish Red 'Vineyard X Garnacha' (£2.70 a bottle with discount) - I have used this for mulled wine cos it's cheap and very drinkable for a wine under £3 but you get what you pay for - the Pillar Box and Villa Maria reds are much nicer
Whites: The Villa Maria Private Bin Sauvignon Blanc is very nice too...and the Dona Dominga Old Vines Sauvignon Blanc (Chile) is not bad either.... http://www.oddbins.com/products/productDetail.asp?productcode=33162
Couple of good Australian blends too - one red, one white :St Hallett Poacher's Blend and St Hallett Gamekeeper's Reserve, both under £4 with the voucher.
Spittoon blog also tastes and recommends some wine from Threshers and in the comments section someone who says he is a manager at a Threshers also recommends some wines + he gives a good tip "will give you a tip... Its not often advertised anymore but if you dont like something you can take it back.. Doesnt even have to be anything wrong with it... Just take it back and we change it..."

A correction to competitionscafe's statement about corked wine. Wine that has a screw cap or plastic cork can still have problems (though considerably less likely). This is mainly due to the winemaker not taking sufficient account of the fact that there is no exchange of gases between the contents of the bottle and the outside air (there is some exchange when a cork is used), so anything added to preserve the wine should be done so in much lower quantities, otherwise the taste is affected.0

I love this deal, I,m surrounded by Haddows stores, so a bit lazy when it comes to wine buying. This means I can buy a better wine without breaking the bank, thanks to all who posted:T:jDabbler in all things moneysaving.Master of none:o
Well except mastered my mortgage 5 yrs early :T:j
Street finds for 2018 £26:49.0 -
Don't know if they still do it but Old Vines Grenache is one of the best reds I have had from Thresher0
-
By the way, I suspect that Thresher inflates the price of a single bottle so that their Buy 3 for the Price of 2 looks like a good deal. Anyone else agree?0

On most bottles yes I think they have but some are still competitively priced even before the 33% / 40% discount - eg: the Chenin Blanc above which is £5.99 before any discount I have seen at Sainsburys for £5.99 and £6.99 at Waitrose so either way, you are getting a good deal with 33% off or 40% off - at full price you are still not paying a premium. Its hard to compare with a lot of wines as they are exclusive to Threshers. Without the 40% off offer I would not use Threshers for buying a single bottle if I could help it as I think Oddbins and independent retailers/wine merchants [eg: Stone, Vine and Sun] and the better supermarkets (like Waitrose) offer better choice, overall quality and value for money. But, the 40% off offfer aside, if you are prepared to buy 3 bottles the permanent 33% off means you can find 3 similarly priced decent wines at a reasonable price quite easily."The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."

The Sainsburys 25% off All wine including champagne is a much better offer as the prices are much lower to start off with.
BE QUICK as it is only on until April 1st.:beer:0
