Another question about slow cookers!

I know this one has probably been done to death but thought I would start a thread of my own.
My old slow cooker that I got as a wedding present went kaput (I won't reveal why!) and so, seeiing as how I also needed a new steamer (element broke in it - why is it everything always breaks at once!) I invested in a combined steamer slow cooker type thing.
Only problem is I don't use it much as a steamer - too much blinking hassle cleaning the darn thing - it's huge! I also don't rate it much as a slow cooker. Was browsing thru the posts yesterday and you lot have just put me in the notion for getting a new slow cooker!
So, looked in my Argos book. They usually are the cheapest place to buy things like that. Now they have a Cookworks one (3.5 litre) for £17.99. Does anyone have this one or is it just not up to the job. The next one up is an Antony Worrall Thompson one (4.5 litre) for £29.99.
What do you reckon?

Go for the largest you can afford/have room for. If you've trawled through the other threads, in most cases people (myself included) seem to benefit from having the larger ones. If your family is only young, then you will need bigger capacity in the future and you'll miss out on how delish a large joint is, when slo-cooked. Have a hunt around online and see who has them on offer - I think Tesco and Amazon have sold out of the Morphy Richards 6.5L one, but it may come back in stock.0

I reckon the £29.99 one is fine for me, I only cook for 2-3 people. I plan to cook double portions and freeze half. It is a bit bigger than my usual oven casserole dish so I've got a pretty good idea of how much I can fit into it.
I don't know how many children you have, but as Ticklemouse says, even if they're only little now they will get older and have bigger appetites. If you buy a small cooker now, you might find it's not big enough in a few years time.
I probably could have got an even bigger cooker for less cost, but I've only got a small kitchen so storage space was a worry. I know it might be economical to cook giant casseroles, but honestly with only two mouths to feed I didn't fancy cooking gallons of stew and having to squeeze it all in the freezer!
I only bought the Anthony Worrall Thompson model yesterday so I'm afraid I can't tell you if it's any good, I certainly hope so because tonight's dinner is in it right now
Word of warning about Argos though - their computer popped up a little message to say that if AWT wasn't in stock, it could be substituted with another brand called Rival. A few posters have complained that Rival is not a quality brand. If you do choose the AWT cooker, make sure Argos don't fob you off with an inferior version!0 -
