  • Decent price but there seems to be some issue with battery life:

Questions are a burden for others; answers a prison for oneself.
  • Do not buy this camera. I bought one for my neice thinking it would be an ideal 1st digital camera. The batteries lasted 5 minutes max. I thought it was a fault with the camera but after reading the reviews on several sites I took it back. There are similar good deals out there. Look elsewhere and ALWAYS do some research first. A shame because it looks like a good camera on the face of it.

I think that batteries are an issue for a lot of digital cameras (IMHO). The problem with this one compared with others is it takes AAA's so you can't get high capacity rechargables (unlike AA's). The other thing to be aware of is this camera doesn't have an optical zoom. IMHO whilst a reasonable price, I personally would recommend spending 20-30 more and getting a bulkier camera with an optical zoom, and a good quality lens.

If it is any help, the camera is also sold as the BenQ DC-E30, available for around £60 from eBuyer, BT Shop et al.

Maplin sell this as a Premier for £60 Quick Find A94CB. They also have the manual online:

    PDF Manual

If you don't know Premier is a "brand" used to sell OEM cameras. For example my 2 megapixel Premier is identical in all but casing to one sold by Konica for over twice the price!

My Premier I found to be very slow (20+ secs switch on, 5+ secs to store image), and took mediocre pictures that were over compressed and looked fuzzy. I'm not saying it will be the case with this one, but I now won't buy a digital camera based on price / megapixels alone!

Do you have any recommendations Rufus? Any thought on the Canon Powershot A85 or A400 or ANYTHING? ;)

  • I bought the Vivitar 3 mega pixel one from Argos for just under £50 the other day, used it lots and still on the first set of batteries (2xAA). Seems great so far, simple to use and not too many complicated functions. I can't get the PC to recognise it though but that may just be my dodgy computer. Doesn't really matter though as I was planning to go to Tesco to print the pics, I prefer hard copies. It is a smart looking and compact camera too.
