I've got my kids sorted for World Book Day but now the school I work at have decided they wanted everyone to dress up.
Any ideas for a cheap costume. Bit skint at the moment so could do with being something I can make, beg or borrow rather than buy. (And my sewing skills are pretty basic).
Any ideas welcomed

what age is your class? .. i think that plays a big factor..... if you have red hair .. you could always go as "pippi longstocking""Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0

My class are age 5-7.
I have been toying with the idea of Where's Wally as I am tall with brown hair.
My MIL has a walking stick I can borrow and I could draw the glasses on with eyeliner for comic effect.
I have some brown walking boots
I would need to find a red and white bobble hat and Red and white stripey top.Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -
My DD won as Dr. Seuss one year. Black t shirt and tail made out of a stuffed tight leg, I made a stripy cardboard hat and eyeliner for whiskers and a cats nose.0

DH teaches year 3 and went as Christopher Robin (in shorts and wellies:rotfl: ) one year.
Where's Wally sounds good.
What about Miss Hubble from the worst Witch?
Got an aran sweater? Any of the female characters from the Katie Morag books would be easy then- DD2 went as Katie Morag herself one year ( Swaeter, kilt and wellies) and qwas insantly recognised by the teacher - that made DDs day!
Retro Laura Ashley Floral type frock (with pinny maybe) would do for any of the Little house on the prairie ladies.
My lazy book day technique is to think of what you have and fgind a character to fit:rotfl: Messy boy- easy Horrid Henry or Just William, girly girl, smock frock- Lucy from LWWW etc etc
Just could do with a fair isle tank top though in the dressing up box- perfect for so many retro boy characters inclding the ubiquitous victorians or WW2 days:rotfl:
We also have a roman/greek thing made from an old sheet and double sided sticky tape- that both DH wore and then DD2 (only6 at the time)- she just wore that top bit with a belt as a chiton:rotfl: .0 -

IMHO red and white (or red and black for Dennis the mennace and co) are nigh impossible to find, esp near to dressing up events..0 -
What about Mary Poppins? Smart coat, umberella and a big bag!0

Who are your children dressing as? Do schools normally do fancy dress for WBD? DD's in reception and her school has just sent a letter home so we have 2 days to sort something out.
I fancy Pippi Longstocking cos I like the mismatched socks but DD wants to wear her fairy outfit and go as a Rainbow Fairy or Winnie the Witch. A bit stumped for ideas really but don't mind putting a bit of effort in.0 -
This year my sons are going as Zorro and Bart.
Last year they went as Mr Snow and a dinosaur.
Some of the girls costumes were:
Angelina Ballerina (nice ballerina costume at home bargains for £3.99) and mouse mask.
Loads of Snow Whites, Princesses and Tinkerbells
Meg and Mog
Winnie the Witch
Daisy (I don't like peas book)Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -
At my DD's school you only win a prize if you go as something that doesn't look like it has come straight from a shop, so I need to do a bit of improvisation somewhere. She went as Little Miss Muffet last year, I made her hat, put a shawl on her and made a little spider out of black wool to sit on her shoulder. Got no idea what to do this year.
Help!
PS. No witches!0 -
