Can anyone help my nan?

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knew of a good place that my nan could go to get financial advice. She's almost 70, lives alone, and works very hard as both a cleaner and a waitress. She's been told that she may need to sell her house as she can no longer afford the mortgage etc, and she knows she can't keep working the way she is. She's been to the CAB, but their response by all accounts (and she keeps getting the same guy even though she's specifically asked not to see him) is 'well, don't we all have problems', which I think is horrendous.
I don't know enough details to really go into her situation on here, but does anyone know if there is anywhere else she can go for help, that won't try to grab her money?
Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi, your nan needs to call 1 of the debt charities such as cccs on this site.
They are free. Also, Age Concern are very good and will provide advice.

That's a dreadful attitude by the person at the CAB. I hope she finds some people more sympathetic as they are out there from what I've read on here.Making my money go further with MSE :j

could your nan rent a room out or could she sell the house if its costing too much and find herself a nice little flat somewhere to buy or rent and use any equity she might have to enjoy her life instead of working flat outproper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0

Agree with Angchris.
Also, is she getting everything she is entitled to? Tax Credits, State Pension, Heating Allowance etc?

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Please ask her to go to one of the other charities such as CCCS or Payplan. They are centralised debt specialists who will not take her money to make profits. The contact details for both of them are listed above.
Also, please call your local CAB and ask to speak to the manager to complain about the advisor your mother saw. If this gets you no-where, contact another branch and ask to speak to their manager. It is people like the advisor that your mother saw which give these charities a bad name and whilst he holds that position he is giving appalling advice to other people who may not be lucky enough to have a helpful daughter like you.

My mother's friend is in the same boat and she is also 70 and is panicking how she is gonna pay her way. Think she has another couple of years on her mortgage.
Your nan got support in yourself so that's a start and also like everyone else has mentioned there is professional people out there who will be able to guide her.
best of luck:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0 -
