Hiya
Going for an interview next wk that might mean spending Mon - Fri there. And me being a chronic planner, I want to see how much it would cost me to make sure it is worth the move.
So my questions are:
What's Crewe like - I want to do more than work!
Where would be the best places for a house share and how much should I be looking to spend ?
Ive budgeted £70 max per week all inclusive, but finding it hard to find any online ads for comparison. The company is on Crewe Hall Enterprise Park and I dont drive (yet!) so I'd love to stay close enough to get there easily.
Erm, thats it for now
Thanks folks

I don't know anything about Crewe, but remembering a potential move when I was expecting No. 3 which reduced me to tears for about a week, and our more recent and only slightly less traumatic move down here, I don't think anything beats spending time in the place!
Checking out the local council's website is a good place to start before you get there however, they should have links to local transport so you can find out where you could live and still be able to get to work easily.
If it's a big company, or there are centralised facilities somewhere on the park, then a postcard on a noticeboard might get you a house-share or a lift, but not necessarily before you start ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

BoltonMinx wrote:Cheers Savvy_Sue, my interview is fairly early in the morning, so it will give me some time to look round. My main concern is they want me to start ASAP so might not have a lot of time to get a feel for the place especially as I dont drive. Will pick up a local paper while Im there to try and get an idea of house share prices
When you buy the local paper, if it's a daily or more-often-than-weekly, ask which day is best for accommodation. Also use the local paper and local council website to check out what it's like for YOUR interests - if you love rock climbing or skydiving you'll want to find out where the nearest facilities are, for example. If it's clubbing and pubbing, check what the choice is.
As you'll gather, I've only contemplated or made major moves with children in tow, and before this latest move (5+years ago) we spent as much time as we could in the new place, looking round, finding the fun things to do etc so that they could look forward to it. Finding a church was also a priority. I guess you won't be looking for schools ...
I'll tell you what took longest to find - a decent supermarket! Having moved from a town which had one large superstore one side of town and another the other, with NOTHING in the town centre for a while, I thought I'd be spoiled for choice in a larger city. But although there are small Somerfields and Safeways and Coops scattered all over the place, I couldn't find everything I wanted in them. It took me weeks to find anything bigger than that which I could find my way to!
All the best!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

BoltonMinx, Crewe Hall Business Park is in a rural location just off the A500 road and is probably about 3 to 4 miles from the centre of town. There aren't really any houses close by and certainly none within easy walking distance.
I would imagine that there will be a bus route from town as Shavington village is on the route.

Thanks cokey, I decided to turn the job down - not enough money for me to consider relocating"There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter

Basically the advice is dont!
Crewe Hall is a long way out of town so you might need a bike. Crewe Chronicle is the local newspapers and a place to start looking for flats, loads of estate agents and letting agents. £70 is a bit tight, might have to share with quite a few, try the west End of Crewe.
Plenty of supermarkets, pubs a few clubs but not much else. Most people seem to go to Stoke. There are buses to the Festival park in Stoke for the Odeon, Mega bowl, Pizza hut, water world etc and nightlife.
If you have a hobby or special interest I can tel you if there are any clubs in the area.
