Also found the free knitting library at http://freeknittinglibrary.co.uk/
You have to register, then you can search the library.
Found some free patterns here http://www.wye.co.uk/knitting.htm
If you type 'free knitting patterns' into Google you will probably find lots more.
Don't know whether you have every crocheted, but little squares would soon grow to the desired size.
