How do you remove oil from an oil tank ?

Hi,
My boyfriend has had to move house quite unexpectedly, he has recently got 500 litres of oil delivered. MY query is how do you get the oil out of the tank and transfer it to the new address.
Is it as simple as siphoning it off into drums, and then siphoning it into the new tank ?
Maxol Direct, who he got the oil from, do have a pump out system, ( they charge £70 for it) but the machine is broke at the minute and has been for a few weeks.
Does anyone know some other firm who offer this service, Maxol gave me some telephone numbers, but no one was able to help.
many thanks in advance for all replies

Yes its a simple as siphoning out of one tank and filling it in the other.
Best to use 25 litre used plastic drums and only transport a few at a time.
Time consuming but worth it0 -
Why not do a deal with the new owner of the house or flat ???
Would save a load of hassle ( and a right mess if you are not careful )0 -
Hi,
unfortunately no one else is moving into the property, so we can't get someone to buy it.
looks like i'll be looking for 25 litre drums tonight0 -
Might as well take the oil because if the property is going to be vacant for a period, some thief will drain the tank.
Tip;-
Use a long clear plastic hose for siphoning, that way you can see the fuel and not get a mouthful of vile tasting kerosense0 -
So the tube does not come out of the tank tie it to a metal rod or bar 20mm from the end of the rod.. this also stops any dirt or water that may be in the bottom of the tank being sucked up...So you can take a rest at any time get a piece of something that wil fit inside the tube to block it off and don't lift the tube above the level of the end of the tube in the tank or the flow will stop and you will have to suck on a fuel soaked tube to get it to flow again in
A couple of things to bear in mind 25ltrs weighs around 50 lbs so don't fill containers too full ...,you will get splashed and it stinks for ages and if the tank is high enough to get the containers under it try taking the supply tube off the tap and draining it straight into the containers without siphoning .
