Default I order one sometime ago , was on eof the best freebies

My little one has asthma and goes to the nursery. I pack her inhaler and attachment and the asthma action plan in a transparent bag. She takes that in with her change of clothes everyday.

It really put my mind at ease. It's a great find.

Towertraders, do you mean an inhaler (for asthma relief), or a peak flow (blow into it to measure lung capacity)? Inhalers can't be bought without a prescription, I don't know about peak flow monitors.

I don't want to trivialise your problem, I understand how scary it is not being able to breathe, but there was a study done a few years ago about asthma - you can get an asthma attack from hyperventilating (such as in breathing too fast when running, or when laughing). It was found that asthma in these cases can often be entirely relieved by deep, slow breathing (especially through your nose, as this limits how quickly you can breathe). If your attack goes away once you're breathing more slowly, then you might not need an inhaler.

Myself, I get asthma in this way, and I find it unnecessary to use an inhaler in these situations. I also get asthma caused by allergies, which doesn't go away with controlled breathing, and I have an inhaler for this. If you try deep breathing and it doesn't help, then persist with your doctor, and if they won't budge, then consider getting a second opinion.

I have bought an inhaler before without a prescription. It was in a Boots pharmacy in Goring (Worthing) and they said that they could prescribe inhalers if it was seen as an emergency. I was having an asthma attack at the time and they were very good. I had to pay for it though (I usually get them free with a pre-pay prescription card - link at bottom).

Saying this though, I have been in other pharmacies, such as my local Boots in East Grinstead, and they wouldn't help me. So I guess it is just luck of the draw as to whether they deem you as needing it enough, and how nice the pharmacist is.

I don't think you can get them over the counter generally, but you sound a bit like me as a teen before I was diagnosed. Basically you can't be diagnosed when you aren't having an attack. You should mention to the doctor that it comes on from running and see if they'll let you do a bit of exercise and then be tested (i.e., run around the doctor's office or something).

Good luck, and I hope they figure out if it is definitely asthma or not.

This is usually on the condition that you have had an inhlaer prescriped before by a doctor, need to take your inhaler and GPs is closed (to get a new prescription). So I doubt you would be given one if you've never been prescribed before. I'm a qualified pharmacist in a years time so will have to make decisions like these as its not actually a legal requirement whether they give it to you or not.
Also if you think you may have asthma don't take painkillers like ibuprofen as this may make it worse

I don't think so. There are alot of people out there who will take the mikey and get any freebie they can, because they can. Dongotti doesn't want Genuine people to miss out thats all- its nothing to do with what you said.

No, that wasn't a dig at you! It was a dig to those people who claim freebies just for the sake of getting something for free, which means people who really need it miss out.

Maybe go to a different dr. My dr has never seen me bad as i only get it around cats or after a bad hayfever day and i know inhalers work as i borrowed my sons when i couldnt breath or stop coughing and it cured it. So may help going to another dr if you feel quite sure.
Some are better than others like the dr when i had my throat swell up everytime i ate fruit & he said well just dont eat it then... cheers! (health visitor was really mad about this yesterday as she said its very serious! )So go to another dr.
Thanls for asthma pack OP .

I agree - I only posted it because I thought it would useful for a lot of people out there, and I do hope nobody requests it because it is "free" and they don't actually need it.

I have requested a pack - I know two people very close to me who suffer from terrible asthma, especially in the winter. Dont forget your flu jabs sufferers!

Smile Asthma alternative help

Hello

Just a quick note on asthma, we have been using Lobelia (herb) from our herbalist and it is amazing. 4 drops in water that's it No need for inhalers any more. If you think you would like to try it you need to consult a herbalist as it is classed as a drug, and needs to be given with advice.(I phone mine for free)
A note of caution. would not think everybody with asthma should rush out and try it as it is a very dangerous illness, but just wanted to mention it as it has helped my family. It has saved us a lot in prescriptions meds.
I am quite new to this board and I do am not sure how to post, is it ok for me to post this way?
