Good example of a CV

A friend of mine got made redundant last week (after almost 20 years with the same company). He is fortunate enough to have got a reasonable redundancy package but is keen to get back into work as quickly as possible.
He has never had to prepare a CV in his life and then I remembered someone somewhere on this site saying that they had a good example of one and were offering to email it if needed. Does anyone know who this was or does anyone else have good examples of CVs.
Thanks
Ivan

the original offer of a CV template was made by Daytona_nev on the Vent board under the subject 'graduate employment'. I asked for a copy of it and found it very useful, but as you can tell I am rubbish on this computer, so you are probably best getting in touch with Daytona_nev to get a copy!
All the best to your friend, I hope they find employment soon!

Just passing on the thanks from my friend - who, to say the least, was overwhelmed with the help from everybody. We built up a CV for him the other night and sent it out. This morning he phoned me to say he has already been offered a couple of job interviews.....so fingers crossed.

For what it is worth a CV needs to provide a history of your career but remember that employers are looking for someone that will deliver value to them. So your CV should detail how you have delivered value in your past roles. One way is to include "Achievements" for each job and that means using active words: increased sales by xx%, raised performance by xx, improved whatever by xx amount etc. Provide quantified statements and examples that demonstrate how successful you have been... Keep the CV to max of two A4 sides. If you have had too many jobs either drop the oldest or leave them as 1 liners.
If you are over 45 leave out your age and the date you went to school/university etc. so that your age cannot be accurately worked out. The recruitment agencies are generally more ageist than the recruiting company!0 -
I recently updated my CV on the advice of an agency and am getting more hits (more interviews, but sadly no job yet), I was advised to split each job into two parts: responsibilities and achievements. I did that and now my CV looks far more professional (PM me if you would like a copy). Remember the job title - that will tell a lot already about your day to day duties so you can make better use with the rest of the space you have.0

If anyone needs assistance with Cv's just PM me.
Key areas are to keep it to 2 sides and easy to read. Try and keep it straight to the point, too many people waffle. Clear headings for each section, bullet points for your taskes and responsibilities. Always include other information about yourself, hobbies and interests will differentiate you from the next person. Always have a personal profile after your contact details, this should give a prospective employer an idea about the type of person you are in 3-4 sentences.0 -
