cleaner headstone???

Options
i noticed yesterday how really grimy and dirty my grandparents headstone was. it was originally erected 1969 and has had various chemical type cleans. i think we must be now and the sandblasting stage (if possible) or buying a new one. i have been told it is not marble but stone. does anyone have any brilliant cleaning solutions?

Try a solution of washing powder in hot water - it works a real treat on stone steps, so a stone headstone should spruce up too.

Try brushing neat bleach over it and leaving for a few hours before rinsing off.

How would you clean a white marble headstone?
