Family Tree/Ancestry

I want to trace my family tree and need to subscribe to Ancestry.co.uk. it costs about £60 plus VAT.
I think I read some where if you have Family Tree Maker 2005 you can get it half price.
Does anyone know anything about this, have a code, or know how to get a discount.
Thanks.

I don't know anything about half-price subscription to Ancestry through Family Tree Maker 2005, but I would think long and hard before spending £60+ on a year's subscription unless you have exhausted all of the excellent free (or fairly low cost) resources available on the internet.

My husband and I have been researching our families for several years now and have been able to take them back to the late 1700's using such sites as https://www.familysearch.org , https://www.genesreunited.co.uk , freebmd and scotlandspeople to name but a few. Ancestry is good for census information, but remember the 1881 census is free to view anyway from familysearch and the 1901 is available on pay-per-view from the PRO. Often if you search google you'll find snippets of relevant information/censuses others have transcribed and you may even find large portions of your tree already done for you! Unfortunately there is no way around the costs of buying certificates and these are essential to verify your research.

It's worth mentioning that Ancestry also does a pay-per-view service now and occasionally offers a two week free trial - I used the latter myself and two weeks was sufficient to gather the information they had to offer. If you need any suggestions as to where to look for free info get in touch and I'd be pleased to help

    Good luck
