I've started to try to cook from scratch, and am trying to try new things. I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but does anyone have any good recipes for salmon fishcakes [ i have tried one, but it was a bit of a disaster] or for a homemade sweet and sour sauce?

Oh yeah.....
The S&S that I do is as follows
1 pineapple
3 Red peppers
2 onions
thumb of ginger
chop all and slow cook for ages (if no slow cooker, roast em). When soggy, whizz to a pulp, adding a couple of tablespoons of sugar and similar of balsamic vinegar.
Tastes delish
Alternatively, cook half and keep half to add when you cook your chicken or whatever (Peking style, I believe)
Edit : optional - add a chilli for a bit of kick:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood :dance:0 -
For all fishcakes, use about 50/50 cooked fish to potato. You can either use mash or chopped boiled potatoes for a more textured fishcake. You can use your imagination for other ingredients such as cooked onions, spring onions, leeks chillis, etc. Always season the fishcake mixture. You can also dip each cake in egg then breadcrumbs or flour to give extra crunch, but this is optional.
Another option, is to replace the fish with butter beans and mash the mixture (good veggie option).TL0 -

Thank you both for your ideas
) I bet the sweet and sour sauce tastes lovely, really fresh, will def try esp as it sounds so easy to leave in the slow cooker, and thank you for the ideas on the fishcakes, I wouldn't have thought about adding extra things in, will def try some with spring onion, and the butterbean one sounds really interesting, will def try that one too

Hi Fryn,
This older thread might help with the sweet and sour sauce:
Sweet and Sour Sauce
And these threads have lots of hints and tips on making fishcakes (you can just substitute the salmon for tuna):

Tuna fishcakes - advice please

Forgot to mention, you can use cabbage with potatoes for bubble and sqeak cakes!TL0

tinned salmon and tuna often BOGOF or on offer, are just as good as fresh, and probably cheaper. Nice if you happen to have some capers or parsley around to add as well as the seasoning mentioned before0
