Food Appetite Blockers

Hi,

I've heard the term 'blockers' but am not sure about wandering into Holland & Barretts and saying, "Oh I'd like some blockers please," as I'm not sure they'll know what I'm talking about.

I think these are the slimming aids that are peddled in fitness clubs and salons being sold for £20 for a little bottle to last you a week. When if you know what to ask for you can just buy them in a health food shop.

Someone told me about these the other night, ie. blockers. I need to lose weight. My aim is to lose about a stone asap. I'm also gyming 3-4 times a week too. 4 years ago I lost 6stones in 6months but I don't think I can go through that method again.

Thanks,

Aly

I'd love to say different - but they're a waste of money. The only pounds you lose are from your purse. :rotfl:

You know what to do (as I do too) - eat less, exercise more and don't return to the old ways of eating! It's the onlt thing that works long term.

    Good luck.

There was a report in one of the medical journals a while ago suggesting that stress could make you put on weight - instead of pills how about the Phil Mckenna Cd on weight loss which will also relax you and then having a massage so you feel good about yourself?

I am not telling anyone how much weight I need to lose but it is more than a stone!

    Hi again Aly,
The pills in the Health Food store are freely available, and some people find they help - but in exactly the same way as a placebo pill, if you think they will work they do, they just play a trick on your mind. If the ones in the gym are the same they're a rip-off, if they're not then avoid, as you've no idea what they are or contain, where they're from and what they are doing to you body.

The reason you are having problems is that you are yoyoing with your weight. When you lose weight so fast (and a stone in a month is far,far to fast), your body goes into 'starvation mode', and as soon as you start to eat it will store any excess energy as fat - as you've lost fat and muscle this is a very bad thing and makes it harder and harder to lose more and easier and easier to put on.

You have to re-educate your body to lose weight a healthy way, and you can do this by eating loads of veg, (raw or lightly steamed) alongside low fat protein (between 6 - 8 oz per day) aim for fish, chicken, turkey and some good quality carbohydrate - oats is good as are pulses. (Avoid to much wheat, rice and fats in the short term). Give fizzy drinks and processes food the elbow - they're !!!!!!. Avoid alcohol for now and drink 2 litres of still water a day. You will lose weight - but this is only an outline - why not spend the money you would on pills by going to see a dietitian? Your GP could recommend one, as you don't want a quack!

You can do this without reverting to your old habits, after all where did they get you? And the problem will only get worse, so please don't go there.

Hypnotherapy does work for some people, and Paul Mackennas' book is a good inexpensive start. But you could visit an expert too - again, ask your GP for a list of approved ones. (If that's no good ring your local Nuffield Hospital and ask if they have sessions there). Acupuncture is another possibility to consider.

And get to the library and get out some books today. Ring your GP for an appointment. Make a positive start. Be in control but by doing good healthy things - and in the meantime eat a sensible balanced diet. At the end you'll look good and be slim. GO GIRL!
  • Hi
I think the tablets you mean are called Hoodia Gordonii, they cost £30 to £35 for 120 caplets from Holland and Barrett. The website on the bottle is https://www.natural-diet.eu
Theres another sort called phentermine I think, dont know where that can be purchased from, though. Also phase 8 carb blockers from Superdrug.

I know its not very sensible but cambridge diet has great, fast results and you are surprisingly not hungry but I did find as soon as you go back to "normal" eating the weight does come back on.:-(

    Good luck with it, anyway.
You can if you think you can!

I am worried about this thread. More about what people are doing to themselves to look thin, be it for work or self esteem. I do however, understand how you feel, as it threatens your livelihood.

I too have been a model in my time and when I was a model, the models were not so thin. Some of the size 0 models you see today look vile.

What worries me is people today see thin people and aspire to be like them and, by your own admission, you have attained your weight thro' very unhealthy methods. I don't find very thin people attractive (nor obese people either) but I am mystified as to why clothes are modelled by skinny people and most people can't wear them, as it is the wrong cut for them etc. Why is the clothing industry not more realistic? Some people look good with a bit of weight (again not excessive) and I bet you look fine just now. I am now a size 14 and feel most clothes are aimed at skinny teenagers or old women, I am in neither category. I generally feel happy with my size, of course, like other women I would like to be a size 10-12, as I was before but I do not like feeling ill due to lack of food. I didn't eat so much in those days and didn't need to diet, as I was unhappy, for other reasons.

I am not attacking you, I admire your honesty and your worry about not being able to work but I am worried about your post reflecting many other models needing to use unhealthy methods of losing weight. In my experience, I have tried pills to lose the odd half a stone and it was useless. If I knew the answer my husband wouldn't be obese and I would be a stone lighter too.

I am interested in diets and pills tho' as my husband is morbidly obese and HAS to lose weight for health reasons. Nothing works for him.

I am also wondering how breast augmentation could make you gain weight?, apart from the actual weight of the increased breast size! I am wondering if you have a hormone imbalance and like the OP said, stress can put weight on.

I hope these pills work, do let me know if you do find a weight loss method that isn't painful, as my husband needs to lose 6 stone!

  • I'm sure you look great the way you are, I don't get why women are so obsessed with weight, a curvy woman is much more sexy than a stick thin women IMO.

    For example

    I know which I'd prefer.......

Just keep up with the work in the gym, eat properly (enough veg, chicken, water etc in your diet), and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Post up some pics & we'll be the judge :P

    Good Luck

  • Well we all know we've put on weight over xmas (hehe - enjoyed it though), but some people do goto extremes.

I go the gym 5 times a week after work, but I still need to be more active, as I can't stand doing cardio (bores the hell out of me), so I only hit the weights.

I do walk the dog a lot though, so I'm sure that helps. I'm also thinking about taking up a martial art in the new year, to keep me interested as I train :)
  • Photo thread? Didn't know there was one lol

    Any links to it?
