I have been looking at the Jamie Oliver flavour shaker as a gift for someone who cooks a lot, does anyone have one and if so what do you think of it?
They seem to be a lot cheaper than when they launched, I have seen them for about £13 on line has anyone seen them cheaper?
Not sure if this is the correct place to ask but it's about a cooking gadget and about saving money on it so hopefully it will be OK;)

im sure youll get a bit more with a code from somewhere and some cashback/ piggypoints etc. Eg a quick google shows play.com do it delivered, loads of online vouchers & quidco cash back too
I looked at these too, then i thought the person I was buying it for wouldnt want it- but I would! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
apparently they are a gimmick and not something someone into cooking would use over a mortar and pestle.... I like my cooking and I don't think I would ever use one... Probably not what you wanted to hear but sorry0

I wondered about it then thought that no doubt someone on this Board would come up with a good improvisation. Do you think a marble (or two) in a non breakable container would work? If not then its back to the pestle and mortar for me.0

I've read about them on another forum (RiverCottage), and boy, do they hate them on there :rotfl: I think they are just a gimmick, if your friend is a keen cook they probably already have a mortar and pestle.0

I think these will be dead cheap next year, I thought gimmick as soon as I saw them.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

If you don't have a mortar and pestle you can get by with a sturdy mug and the end of a rolling pin to smash things up - this is even better than a mortar and pestle for peppercorns because they stay put in the mug instead of leaping around everywhere0

shove it all in said mortar and pestle and then use an old jam jar to shake it up a bit.. saved yersen a few bob then!0

Maybe make an OS style flavour shaker
One empty jam jar and an old ball out of a computer mouse....hey presto shake a LOTNot in debt at the moment, but been there in the past and realise I'm the kind of person who could easily fall back into it with the self destructing spending button so making sure I keep on top of being a good girl.

I'm a good cook but I like gadgets so I got seduced and paid out my 19.99 or whatever it was and I think the thing is RUBBISH. If you make anything with oil in it leaks out when you open the gadget, I have twice dropped the ball on my foot (ouch) and however hard you shake it it DOESN'T manage to crush rosemary etc. I think it might be just the thing for my expected-in May first grandchild to play with in the bath (minus ball of course,) but it's no darn good for me to play with in kitchen and is a constant reproach in my cupboard as it was so expensive. (But they do look seductive, don't they !?)0

Thanks everyone all your opinions are welcome, I think I will save my money for now, they are about half the price they were last Christmas already! Who knows what price they will be by the January sales.0
