Tevion (Aldi) internet phone £9.99

Picked up three of these today, two for relatives' xmas presents.
The phone comes with £5 call credit but apparently there is a £10 standard charge even with the PAYG option (see last post on this thread):
http://forums.pcw.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=96308&tstart=45&start=15
I am about to try the phone with non-Tevion software from here:

Will let you know how I get on.

These are good phones and I am surpirsed you have managed to still get some.
I got some too and use them with both Skype and VoipStunt/Buster/Cheap.
I found this software here http://www.voip24.co.uk/phones/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=18&osCsid=d1df36c5a734f51ba92d4c1a04a305bd
CallMe works well with Skype and the Driver pack includes software for VOIP Stunt/Buster/Cheap.
I threw away the Aldi software etc as I only wanted the phone.
(Incidently notice how on that link I posted above the price of the phone is twice as much as Aldi).0 -
yeah, the above drivers work fine, i have also binned the CD etc. just trying to work out how to call out for free0

dfarry: does your phone take over all your audio when plugged in? mine does - so music etc. that i play gets routed through the phone. i didn't realise they worked like this - it makes me not want to leave it plugged in all the time, which is the point of the phone, isn't it!0

Circuit, check in the telephone forums for VOIP...you'll see lots of talk about a company called VOIPSTUNT, VOIPBUSTER, VOIPCHEAP and other name.... basically all part of the same company called Betamax in Germany.
As a first stab at this look at http://www.voipstunt.com - these companies are as close as you can get to "free" calls, although you pay an initial (about £8) fee this goves you 120 days of Free calls to UK landlines and many other countries too (even mobiles in the US) - after the 120 days your credit starts to be used (if you haven't already used it up for other chargeable calls like UK mobiles and 0870's).... overall I think it is a good and cheap way to do and certainly saves me a lot in NTL call charges. Some of the other VOIP Buster features are worth looking at too.
If you download and try VOIPStunt etc... you will get about 30 minutes of free calls to so that you can try it out.
Skype is very slick but overall more expensive.
On the audio question..... yes.... in my case the audio is directed to the headset however you can I believe change this in the software (Voice in, Audio Out etc...)0 -
Not sure about this specific Tevion branded phone, but most of these USB VoIP phones are variants from Yealink in China - eg see model USB-P1KH on
http://www.yealink.com/en/newest.asp
To use them with the various Betamax group VoIP services on your PC - eg InternetCalls, VoipBuster, etc - get hold of the relevant software from the relevant Betamax site - eg Internetcalls (which I've used for 9m or so) at
http://www.internetcalls.com/en/download.html
and integrate with your phone via Yealink's own VoipBusterMate (works with most of the Betamax software, not just the VoipBuster one)
http://www.yealink.com/en/otherdown.asp
FYI: There's a VoipBusterMate bug that sometimes when it launches at Windows XP startup the volumes are set at minimum - use Ctrl+Alt+Del to force the application closed and then just re-run VoipBusterMate by hand.
Good luck. Once you've got the VoIP bug I recommend tracking down the Yealink USB box that lets you integrate your existing landline phone (eg most people seem to have a DECT cordless set) with VoIP - see the USB-B2K black/grey/blue box. It's sold under many different brands in the UK and can be found at wide range of prices from c£15-£40 - eg Staples had the Trust branded version earlier this year at £19.99 (and had £5 off a £20 spend coupon).0 -
thanks for the advice.
is there a way to add a voipstunt/etc acount to line 2 on x-lite? i'm sure that's how i set up the software when i tried voip once before.0 -
bump?
i would highly recommend this phone - it is working well and i have solved my audio problem!0 -
This telephone is available from Aria (link) for £9.34 inc VAT but delivery is expensive at about £6.50 but handy if Aldi are out of stock
I have been using one for months via VoipcheapCom and they are quite acceptable. This includes ringing friends in Australia for free so I must have saved a small fortune as my BT bill is now negligableOnly time will tell if I am right or they are wrong0 -
Yesterday I was in in Aldi - Swanley, Kent and they still had loads of them (I was quite surprised tbh)0

DAN.
Would appreciate it Dfarry if you could be more specific about this point. I would like to know how to switch from phone to speakers and back (using XP)Many thanks0
