Don't throw away that council bumpf called 'Outlook' as there is a voucher on the back for free entry to Edinburgh castle for up to 2 adults and 2 children from now until 31 March 2007 (with a Citycard). There is one for free entry to Craigmillar castle too as well as the number to phone if you have lost your City Card. Might be worth checking to see if you still have some copies lying in your stairwell or junk mail pile.
Doesn't say anything about weekends, so I assume you can go on weekends too?

Anyone who lost a relative in either the 1914-18 war or the 1939-45 war can get free entry to the castle.
You ask to visit the war memorial to read your relatives entry in the memorial book.
This is free.
In theory they could escort you directly to the memorial and wait for you to pay your respects and then escort you back to the gate but in practice they don't. Many times I have gone to view my great grandfather's entry and taken relatives with me.0 -
should we say what his name was?_________0
