Deva Yoghurtmaker - Advice please

Options
Hello all,
I have just had a response from freecycle and i can get hold of a yoghurt maker :D made by Deva. It is in box with all instructions and thermometer. Does anyone have one of these ones or can anyone tell me what they are like - i.e what is the yoghurt like and whether it is an older model etc. I have searched the internet trying to find a picture and info on one and have had no luck. Any help / advice would be appreciated - I am sooo excited and am hoping to persuade OH to take me to pick it up in the next couple of days.

  • They all work on the same principle of gentle heat applied to a container (or small individual pots) of milk with a little starter yogurt in, you can't go wrong - take it gladly!
  • Thank you apprentice tycoon. I am defineately going to have it but i am not able to pick it up for a couple of days and was just wondering what it looks like etc. I have read so many posts on here about how good yoghurt makers are and can't wait to get hold of it. It will also save me a fortune as my son is addicted to yoghurt!
  • The deva is like a thermos flask but short and stubby with a handle. (In fact, I've been known to keep soup in mine if out for the day but that's beside the point :-D)

Generally white body with a blue lid.
    No electric is required.
You simple heat the milk to around blood temp, (testing with the thermometer if your recipe gives you precise temp), add teaspoon live yogurt, wrap in a towel and leave overnight.
Stir in fruit, honey or whatever in the morning if you don't like plain yoghurt.

PS You can do the same with a regular thermos but the wide neck on this one makes it easier.

    Hope this helps

Edited to add: Don't forget to keep a spoonful of each batch to make the next lot.
  • Just realised I didn't answer all your questions. It is an old one (I prefer the term retro :-D; it was out in the 60s and 70s.

But, don't let that put you off, I've tried the new ones and I prefer the simplicity of this one.

You might want to sign up for this yoghurt recipe e-book

(EasiYo is the powdered yoghurt mix stuff but don't need to use it for the recipes)

Delia has always loved Peter Bradford's method. If you look at her on line web page and search for 'Home-Made Yoghurt' you wil see that it's the exact same approach.

It was my mum's originally and I am about to try it for myself....

If Delia recommends it.....it must be good.
