I had some candles standing on my desk until a while ago and they have left a coloured stain in the wood. Is there any way I can remove this?

I doubt it.
The dye used in candles would be a solvent dye. Anything removing it will also remove the varnish, oil or wax finish.
Try alcohol first (meths). If that doesn't work, try acetone. Work in very small areas of the surface with small amounts of fluid.
Good luck!"Beer. Now there's a temporary solution." Homer (Simpson)0
