How to go about cutting a babies hair?

Options
My little girl is one on Saturday and her hair is starting to get quite long and curly at the back.

I wanted to either get it cut or have a go myself.

Anyone able to offer any pointers?

She loves having her hair brushed so I'm hoping she wouldn't be too bothered about having it cut

I'm not sure if I should pull it away from her head and cut across or cut from top to bottom (thats how mine is cut by the hairdresser and I assume that is why I have layers!)

Hi, I will do my best to explain how I cut my daughter's hair.

Hers is mid length and I try and cut it straight.

I wet it slightly and then comb it down and with the hair between my fingers cut in a straight line pulling it down gently and keep on until I get to the other side.

I usually do it sat in front of the T.V for distraction and get the hoover out afterwards.

    Hope that makes sense!

I worked as a nanny over the summer and the little boy was about 8 months old and desperately needed a haircut.

I took him along with the rest of the family when they got their haircut and the hairdresser did it for free for the little one - took about 5 mins and he sat on my knee. I held his hands so they couldn't go near the scissors but he was fine.

If you are nervous i do suggest going to a hairdressers. Some will even come to the house which keeps the little ones reassured of their environment and not so upset to see a stranger.

If you do try it yourself make sure there is someone else there to help keep hands out of the way, provide a distraction etc

  • Thanks, gin gin I know what you mean - well explained!

I think I will wait until DH is back from work and wait for Bear in the Big Blue house to come on!

  • i would honestly go to the hairdresser i did DD's once and it turned out awful even though i was only cutting a little bit off.
Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts
