Looking for a decent family meals cookbook

Nothing fancy that I'm really not going to make. Just good proper family food like cottage pie or macaroni cheese, casseroles etc. I tried Ainsley Harriot's but it was too fancy. Need it for ideas too.

The "New Dairy Cookbook" is quite good for things like that. And I've just bought James Martin's "Easy British Food" which is pretty good too.
I'm sure lots of folk will come up with good suggestions for you!0 -
Delia's Complete Illustrated Cookery Course has all those things in and more

Oxo used to do one - might be worth checking out their website to see if its still available....I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0

the Be - Ro cookbook is brilliant for old fashioned baking. Available on their web-site ....£1.50 I believe , including postageWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0

Good Housekeeping's Cookery Book is fab and covers all the basics. I have an older edition, I've been told the newest isn't as good but haven't seen it. Might be worth checking your library or second hand shops.
Thriftlady is right, Delia's complete cookery is great.
I've also just bought Tana Ramsay's 'Family Kitchen' which I'm really enjoying.0 -
Thanks. Have just looked up the Good Housekeeping Family Cookbook and added it to my wishlist. It also brought up the Tana Ramsay cookbook which has excellent reviews. So I've added that one too.0

I would suggest Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's River Cottage Family Cookbook, as it has descriptions of the ingredients as well, and is definitely family-friendly. I bought one, but my DD has managed to inveigle it into her house, so I hadn't tried any of the recipes. But it was a good read!0

I'd agree with Delia's Complete Cookery Course and the GH book (and yes the new editions aren't as good as my old 1978 edition but still worth having I think). Both of these are good for reference and basic recipes.
I have the Hugh F-W Family cookbook and as Chipps says its a good read but rather limited I think in the number of recipes it has in it.
If you have a Morrisons near you they have the Bero book(next to the flour £1.10 think) well worth getting (I think this was probably the first cookery book I owned)0 -
I have the Good Housekeeping One (was given it as an engagment present) and it is brilliant. Whenever I need a recepie for anything from shepherds pie to white sauce to fairy cakes, it is all in there. Also gives good advice on preparing and cooking different meats and vegetables. (Haven't seen the old one, so don't know what it is like).Sorting my life out to give a better life to my:heartsmil 2 gorgeous boys :heartsmil0

There is a cook book in WHSmith £6, it is a huge compilation of all the celebrities chefs, starters, maIN AND desserts, it is very easy to follow(pics help!) cheap and has loads of recipes in.
The actual title escapes me but it is in the front door, stacked high up, next to the guiness book of records, I am getting it for a xmas present xxx0
