ISP Debt

Back in 2004 i signed up for an ISP Bloomley UK which we received no services for as our BT exchange needed to be upgraded as it wasnt fast enough for the internet connection we wanted (our BT exchange hadnt been upgraded till around last year). I paid a connection fee and was told that when the BT exchange was upgraded the internet would be switched on and the internet was never switched on, also we never recieved the ADSL modem that we needed to be able to connect to the internet with. The service was not used at all and the company would have been able to see this as no data had been uploaded or downloaded and would be able to see that the internet was not active.

Back in 2005 we recieved a telephone call from a different company requesting around £400 and told them this service had not been used at all due to above and they then noticed this and told us to send an E-mail to them telling them this and would then write the so called debt off. Also this is the only time we aknowledged the debt. sadly i don't have this in writing

Now this morning I have received a letter for a company called ISP payments for £772.50. Any help on how to deal with this would be very much appreciated.

Yes that is my impression too. You would have to look at the wording of your original contract though, as there may be some clause in it, that says about charging you whether you use the service or not. Someone with more experience will be along in a minute....

  • Thanks for your post the problem is this was all done through a paperless office, so I have nothing in writing.

    Hiya!

Send them a £1 postal order asking for a copy of the original credit agreement, saying you do not acknowledge any debt to them. There's a template letter on the site somewhere for stuff like this. They need to prove the debt before they can make you pay - did you ever receive 'normal' bills from them? Bit confused...
