Left handed box

Options
My youngest son is nearly 6 and has eventually decided he's going to be left handed, he has wrote with both, coloured in using both at the same time etc for ages, but seems to have eventually decided on being left handed.

Looking for things for a little hamper box for him, especially as he's craft mad I know many things you can get left handed specific but it's where. Scissors, pencil sharpners etc and I would love one of those writing boards which guides their writing, he uses one in school but can't take it home.

Any ideas where I can get lefties things without paying a fortune
One day I might be more organised...........

    Hello
Just wanted to say that I am left handed, same as my mum and she bought some scissors from the lefthanded shop in London (sorry don't remember address, it was about 15 years ago) and I had terrible trouble using them although she got on with them fine so don't spend a fortune just in case he ends up like me.
My mum can't do a thing with her right hand whereas I eat, cut, chop and use a mouse like a righthanded person; in fact, I can't use a mouse with my left hand, how weird is that? And, my husband is right handed and eats like a leftie whereas I am a leftie and eat like a rightie (or like a right one - love my food!).

I know it wasn't the info you were looking for but just thought I would highlight in case he is the first in your family.

    Ditto :)

Sometimes it's easier to do it the right handed way. I cannot for the life of me use a right handed tin opener [... or any tin opener come to that] or a right handed potato peeler and whilst I can cut left handed, I'm much stronger using my right hand.
  • I too am left handed and have never got on well with left handed scissors (possibly 'cause got used to using right handed ones at school).

Look here for left handed writing skills books:

and here for scissors, pencil sharpeners etc.

My son is left handed and he uses right handed scissors in his left hand (sort of upside down) and cannot use left handed scissors!

  • I am left handed but basically the only thing I do with the left hand is write! Everything else is right handed including sports, cooking, scissors etc. Sounds like he could be a bit like me so I wouldnt worry too much about buying left handed items as the chances are they may go to waste.

  • I am lefthanded and switch from hand to hand I write with my left hand and drink using it but that is about it I use a mouse in my right hand.
I think everyone is different and you indeed may buy something that will be of no use.
My brother is left handed and uses a mouse in his left hand and we are in the same family.

I write with my left hand too - again it's about the only thing I do left handed.... I did find something the other day that I was doing left handed but I forget what it was now!

The only "left handed" things I have ever found useful are my cheque book (bound on the opposite side) and a ruler with the numbers running the "wrong" way...

Maybe it all comes from being taught to do everything by right handed people.... having said that there are some things I can do with both hands and it can really confuse people (don't try playing to my backhand - I haven't got one!)

    I am right-handed. Isn't that fairly unique for a 'left-handed' thread? :)

But, I use a cricket bat left-handed and can kick a football just as well with either foot.

I can't get on at all well trying to hit a golf ball in a proper right-handed fashion and so I golf left-handed too.

And, this is a bit weird.... but, with the use of a left-handed grip or hold, I can hit a golf ball far straighter, further and more accurately, using a right-handed stance and swing than I can do it in a proper left-handed fashion.

    Daft or wot?
