Getting even more organized....

I am sure that many of you are already doing this BUT my new discovery is really changing my meal planning.
I started doing a weekly dinner planner months ago. I had always known roughly what was ahead for the next few days but putting it down was a step forward. Then I discovered Organizedhomes monthly planner printable page
http://www.organizedhome.com/printable/showgallery.php/cat/506
Now I have really gone to town....... when I buy something its jotted in for a dinner, not just shoved in the freezer, cupboard or fridge but has a date for being used! I made loads extra chilli yesterday , they were frozen into portions and given dates on my monthly planner. I have also started penciling where to find the recipe too. So that the obscure item I bought when shopping can now be used more easily.... still trying to find the recipe for the noodles and balckeyed beans that I bought about months ago!!
I am finding that some weeks are almost full with out even thinking! BLISS!
Of course nothing is set in stone if I have guests etc I just do what I want for for dinner but also move that days 'planned' meal forward in the planner. Plus no more bags of 'something' lying at the bottom of the freezer.
Organized or what!

Hey thanks for this! I've seen organisedhome.com but found the printables quite daunting. I know I would be sitting staring at a blank planner for ages, wondering where to begin!
Your system sounds really sensible, jotting in meals as you put away groceries, I like the adding a recipe reference too!"Then, when every last cent
Of their money was spent,
The Fix-it-Up Chappie packed up
And he went."

I've just done nearly the same thing!
I spent half-term cooking for the freezer and filling meals in on the planner sheets... we have nearly enough meals to last us to Christmas!
I check the sheet in the morning before I go to work and take out the basic meal, and then when I get in at night it's pure bliss knowing that all I have to do is some veg/rice/pasta etc and I can have a hot meal ready for us in no time!!
It seems expensive to get all the ingredients together at first to be able to do it like this, but I've saved £££££'s on not 'popping to the shops' to scramble some hasty meal together or get a take-away.
And my slow-cooker was an absolute boon!!
Now... I have to persuade hubby that I really really need that Breadmaker, and that it won't be laying around doing nothing!! lol
BTW... which really is the best BM???

I am not just bulk cooking .... if something I use is on a bogof or on a special (eg chicken) I will buy 2, use one and then mark it on my meal planner for the other before freezing or putting in cupboard.
The longer I have been using it the better organized I am getting....I have some meal suggestions for well into December! I just print off another 4 weekly sheet and pencil in!
Ps mags...its the panny 253!!!0 -
Mags50 - the best BM has to be the panasonic 253. All those I know who have one absolutely love them. Those I know with other types are not so impressed with theirs. My dad had a Morphy Richards which he thought was OK but once he tasted bread from mine, he was staright onto Amazon to buy one himself.:jThank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0

mah_jong - thanks for the inspiration, I'm starting a new job next week and my dh says my favourite saying is 'must get more organised'! I had already printed off the sheets for my home management folder but have been looking at them blankly! Will make a start this w/end I think. Could also do with some planning for lunches, will be doing 4 packed lunches a day!We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.
