I want a Carbon Monoxide Tester

Where is the cheapest place to get one of these. I want one that looks like a smoke alarm type not the cardboard looking ones that just stick on a surface

I enquired about one of these a while ago.

The gas engineer in our house at the time said that even the industrial detectors that cost £1000 a time aren't 100% effective :(

Course he could have just been trying to get me to have the boiler serviced more often, LOL
  • Hi all,
I am just about to have a gas fire fitted and after the sad occurrance in Corfu I want to make sure my family are safe.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
It is the tragic incident in Corfu that has made me think about getting one of these for both our home and the rented accommodation that my son lives in. A cheap price to pay for safety.
  • I believe the best placement of a CO detector is near a duct vent. My grandparents once got CO poisoning because their detector was behind their couch so it never picked up the toxic air. If your detector ever does go off.. check if the batteries need to be replaced, but don't just unplug or ignore it the consequences are potentially fatal.

Here is a little story, rather a case study that explains a rather stupid move on the behalf of a hotel.
A $17.5 million dollar lawsuit was pursued against a hotel that decided to bypass the carbon monoxide detector on the boiler. The detector had switched off the boiler for safety reasons while staff simply bypassed it to please the hotel occupants need for hot water. The air conditioning system sucked up the carbon monoxide leaving some with illness and some with brain injury
  • I saw one in Asda yesterday, £18.97 it may have been Kidde, I'm not sure.

We had a CO leak a few weeks ago and it was only sheer coincidence (long story about an escaped hamster in the bathroom) that the bathroom door (where we have our boiler)
Anyway I had been having headaches and our CO detector went off.
It had been leaking for a bit but the guy from National Grid said it could have killed me and the little ones in seconds had we not had the bathroom door closed.
    Please dont take that chance!
For £20 it isnt worth it!
I lost a very good friend to CO poisoning.
I now have a new boiler and 2 CO Detectors!
