Knitting little bags/holders

Options
hoping this is the right place

mums getting bored around the house and been knitting 24/7, shes running out of things to do so thought she could try doing little bags/holders to hold phones, as much as i hate to say it something like the ipod socks for our phones and mp3 players and things
e.g. apple_ipod_socks_300x225.jpg

we googled the patterns but they all had the american knitting instructions, where can i find some british designs?

Are the US instructions so very different from our own?

I signed up at The Lion Brand website and there are a lot of knitting and crochet patterns free there. I didn't seem to notice the instructions being different (but then I'm at the knit and purl stage only ;) ) They definately have a phone holder pattern and it's done in k and p stitches.

You can find more free knitting patterns at FreePatterns.com but again, they are likely to be mainly US ones.

Is it the needle sizes which are causing confusion?

Knitting Needle Conversion Chart might be worth a look?

The Daily Knitter has the needle conversions and abbreviations.

And this one has not only the abbreviations but also links to pictures so your mum could compare them to what she knows them to be in UK terms: Knitting on the Net (theres also a free pattern for a phone purse - but if you've already checked it out, I won't post  )

For a Pom-Pom, you need two thin circles of card (cereal box) the same size, with a hole in the middle (think Polo mint).
Wind the wool round the cardboard going through the middle each time and going round until all the cardboard is covered.
When the hole is filled with wool, carefully snip the wool along the outside edge, until the cardboard is visible and all the wool is in strands. carefully ease apart the two circles and slip a piece of wool though the middle and tie it tightly around the bundle of strands.
Slip off the cardboard and fluff up the Pom.
    Oh memories of childhood.

Oooo, if it is to be attached to something, leave the wool used for tying the middle longer.

    Great stuff.
If you use different colours of wool and build it up in layers, so each layer is covered by the next colour, you'll get a stripey one.
