Hi, I want to make a xmas food hamper this year for my grandad (after being inspired by this site!) and I was wondering if anyone had any recipes of this I could put in there, as I dont know really where to start?

Many thanks :D

I don't have any recipes but i once made my gran a "fruit" hamper I just put in apples/oranges/bananas/grapes then to be a little more exotic a mango&starfruit then a few nut almonds/cashews and also some figs and a small cheap fruit cake.
she loved it and actually cried! (at least I think she was happy!:o )

If you're baking, then the weetabix brownie recipe from OS is very nice, and foolpoof to make.

Another Christmassy one is Stained Glass Windows - a basic biscuit recipe, but when you cut the shapes, cut a second one inside and place a boiled sweet in the gap. As it cookes, the sweet melts and fills the hole. You can even make a hole at the top, and when baked, string a ribbon and hang them on the tree.

As to recipes - it all depends on what he likes to cook. The Mega Index on OS is always a good place to start for inspiration

  • A nice shortbread is traditional.
There is a good recipe on the recipe board.

    Quite keen moneysaver......
  • If you can afford to splash out on one item in the hamper, then i'd recommend visiting your local national trust shop. They sell great chutneys, jams, fudge, etc. They look special, aren't too pricey, plus you will be helping to save Britain's heritage!

    List of shops here:

sorry i don't know how to do fancy links!!
