Hi, does anyone know anywhere that does free eye tests or at least very cheap ones? I need to have one to get a copy of my prescription but intend to shop around for a cheap pair of glasses.
Thanks, sarah.
Thanks, sarah.

Have a look on the leaflets that come through the door. We get one in a 'newspaper' style and that often has free eye tests and money off glasses coupons. I think it might be from Specsavers, but I'm not 100% sure.
I've just bought some from Dolland & Aitchson who have a half price frames and cheap second pair offer on. Prices for the second pair start from £29 and I got mine as sunglasses. Here I go again on my own....0 -
I used this free eye test voucher at D&A

and then bought my specs at

That's great Purplepatch- were they at all pushy to get you to stay to look at contact lenses or anything or was it quite easy to just have an eye test and walk out with your prescription?

They weren't pushy at all. I must admit I did the "Sorry, I haven't got time to look at glasses right now" bit as soon as I got out of the eye test (helped by the fact that my mum was hovering outside with my crying toddler!), but they didn't seem bothered anyway.0

Sorry, I know this is quite an old thread but I was browsing and found it.
For those living in London (or in some other major cities) the free morning paper, Metro, often carries free eye test vouchers for what was the Eye Clinic (which has now been taken over by Optical Express). Even though they have been rebranded, if you go to one of the ones that used to be the Eye Clinic you'll find them the most professional and customer-oriented of opticians, with all the most up-to-date equipment (such as computerised headsets for testing your prescription, rather than those awful uncomfortable metal fitting frames). The shops are calm and peaceful and you can have a cuppa and a mint while you wait.
I don't know whether they've started refurbing the other Optical Expresses to the same standard, cos I used to go to the one in Lewisham ('bout five years ago) and it had all the nightmares the ex-Eye Clinic places don't - hordes of screaming kids, disorganised displays, old-fashioned eye charts and fitting frames, and no "customer service" to speak of.
The Eye Clinic's frames are more expensive on average than most, but who says you actually have to buy your glasses there?
I can't imagine ever having my eyes tested anywhere else ever again.Operation Get in Shape

I picked up a leaflet in Tesco's last week saying they are doing free eye tests until 12th July Guess it depends on the size of store though. The number to call is 0845 6013479
