Ebaying Should We.......

Options
Tell each other our ebay names so that we can buy off each other? The only downside with this is that you would know the mser, and the ebay names, and if you won you would know where they lived. Just wondered what others think

  • I don't think this is allowed. It says "don't post links for personal gain" at the top of the screen.

And since it would be a closed system, wouldn't it just be shuffling debt around?

But it wouldn't be posting a link though, just our user names. Well if anyone wants mine they're welcome to it and I will quite happily nose at other people's items to see if I can pick up any tips but won't be buying obviously :D

  • Hmmm, I'm sure this has been mentioned before and it was discouraged. Could a mod please give us the official version?

Saying that, I wouldn't want someone here who needed to curb their spending buying something from me- it would feel wrong, as if I'd been a bad influence if that makes sense. Can see why it would be discouraged actually...

Fair enough then. My main reason for suggesting it was that there are some things that people have to buy. Eg baby equipment when having a first baby. If they were buying it from fellow msers, then they would be helping the other person get out of their debt, whilst at the same time getting what they need.

I would also appreciate a mod telling what the correct position is
    cheers

On the ebay board on MSE the exchanging or posting of user names is not allowed as it breaches rules about trading/selling etc, not what MSE is about.

However it is always a moderator decision of course so I have referred this thread to them

I would also add my own caution to anyone who gives out any personal information on a public board like this, you may get unwelcome attention. These boards are read by thousands of people and anyone that may take offence at any of your posts, comments, jokes etc, or anyone with an odd mind can ruin your ebay auctions easily. I picked up a stalker once he tracked me back through a website and guessed what I was selling by comments I made on an ebay thread and tried to take my user id down by placing silly bids and leaving negative feedback. Luckily I got it resolved, but it was nasty for a while.

If you come on over to the ebay forum we often discuss ways of increasing our bids, best methods for selling etc so you may pick up some tips to increase sales anyway. Just follow the link in my sig.

  • soolin has a good point.

Compare how many times the threads have been read to the number of replies - there are a lot of lurkers on here. Who knows what some of these lurkers think of those in debt and what action they might take. It is possible that someone could bid just to get your name and address.
